Check category:Universities in Ukraine. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 17:00, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Article outdated

76 higher education institutions and their branches were denied licenses in 2015; I have the feeling they were not removed from this article (also after checking the page history) (see: http://pda.pravda.com.ua/news/id_7100764/). — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 16:44, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Yulia Romero, the article needs to be removed. There is no way one would be able to compile that list. There are too many different universities in Ukraine. Besides it would be simpler to check Category:Universities in Ukraine. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 16:58, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

I agree Aleksandr. And made a deletion request for this article today. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 19:14, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

No wiki article is ever complete and the fact that the list is not complete is not a valid reason to delete it. The article on Barack Obama is not yet complete either, yet we keep it where it is, right? If SOFIXIT is not for you, leave it and let someone else come and fix it. //Halibutt 20:41, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Halibutt, please, do not take it the wrong way, but how is the article different from the category??? It is a clear duplicate. The same way I could create the list of people from Kiev. But would that be normal? After all there is a category for that. The list with the universities contains no other information except the name of the listed universities and therefore serves no real purpose. Also beside the universities some editors add educational institutions that are not certified as universities, but rather some colleges or high-school level learning centers. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 22:26, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
@Aleksandr Grigoryev: and @Halibutt: I think it is better to start a general discussion on Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) about Wikipedia list articles then to continue this discussion here. I also think that lists do not belong in an encyclopedia (I have never seen a paper encyclopedia with lists) but the deletion of this article has been prevented so no need to discuss the deletion of this article for now. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 19:06, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

The change that somebody will fix this article is about 0%. Since it has existed for almost 12 years now and was never fixed. I don't see the point on hoping that somebody will fix it.... This Wikipedia article is now a parody of an encyclopaedic entry. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 16:06, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

I appreciate the optimism by Halibutt and Alex Bakharev but share the view of Aleksandr Grigoryev and hence I nominated this page for deletion ; see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of universities in Ukraine. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 16:46, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

I found (on website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine) a current list (in Ukrainian) of certified universities in Ukraine

I found (on website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine) a current list (in Ukrainian) of certified universities in Ukraine. Good luck to anybody who wants to use it to update this article. Since in the process of romanization of Ukrainian a mistake is quickly made and this (Ministry) list is sorted by "Speciality of university" (that makes sense for students looking for an university) and the list does not state the place the university is in for a lot of universities..... For me it is to much work to update this Wikipedia article; I am a volunteer here and translation of lists is not fun.... Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 17:19, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

@Yulia Romero: You're right, it's totally impossible. Oh wait... Anyway, I understand it's too much work for you to update the article. But why delete it and not let others do the work? Also, you don't have to romanise the names, most of those universities already have their articles in English Wikipedia. //Halibutt 00:16, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
I understand your frustration @Halibutt:. I think I have a similar frustration after seeing a lot of editors writing long statements about the Infobox of the Donetsk People's Republic Wikipedia article (on its talk page) but them then doing nothing to improve the quality and content of the article. (I have been trying to improve the quality and content of this article.) Unfortunately mistakes will be made and (unfortunately for me) also by me. I apologise for that. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 19:07, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Note: I have removed Template:Cleanup from the maintenance tags, since that template is intended for grammatical and stylistic fixes and not content concerns (and was therefore categorizing the article incorrectly). —Nizolan (talk) 03:52, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
I have finished interpreting and transferring the information from the Ministry of Education website. —Nizolan (talk) 16:57, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for caring about this Wikipedia article Nizolan (same goes for Halibutt and Aleksandr Grigoryev). — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 19:24, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Just an idea. We all know that the term "University" underwent a significant devaluation in Ukraine lately as every nominally Higher Educational Institution styled itself "the University" that resulted in proliferation of the Universities which are basically the same Harch-Prom, Culture, etc. institutes as they were before. Even some Tekhnikums might have had guts to rename themselves to Universities. Also, some no doubt solid Institutes, such as Kiev and Lviv Polytechnics, Kharkiv Institute of Radio-Electronics, several Medical Institutes are among those new Universities (personally, I find it a pity, old historical institutions like Lviv and Kiev Polytechnics had every reason in the world to proudly carry their names).

As per this, I suggest to have a separate shorter list of Universities at the top of the article that fit the true definition of the term, that is "an institution of higher education and research, which grants academic degrees at all levels (bachelor, master, and doctorate) in a variety of subjects." There is such university in almost every Oblast center (two in Kiev, the KU and KMA). Then, separately we proceed with the rest of the institutions that despite being styled as "the Universities" do not offer programs in a "variety of fields", basically remaining the same Medical, Electronics, Polytechnic and other institutions. There was a discussion about this at Talk:Culture_of_Ukraine but no action came out of it. Besides, this long out of the view article is by far more appropriate for this material than a much more general Culture of Ukraine. Thoughts? --Irpen 22:47, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
