Imperial is no longer part of the University of London.

Dates of charter and date of foundation both added to this page, as per the Universities in Scotland page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.42.234.230 (talk) 12:45, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should this page not include universities like Amity University, i.e. private foreign universities with proper campuses in England —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.104.51 (talk) 08:56, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Key

[edit]

There is no key explaining → and →→ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.97.245.57 (talk) 12:15, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the idea is to indicate that these are parts of a larger entity (like UCL, which is a university in its own right and part of the University of London). If you'd like to add a key, or suggest an alternative approach, go for it. - Pointillist (talk) 12:45, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Year established in another form

[edit]

I've tried adding this to a couple of entries, and it is difficult to decide which date to use. For example, does Oxford Brookes University date from 1865 (Oxford School of Art), 1891 (Oxford City Technical School), 1934 (merged School of Art and Technical School), 1956 (Oxford College of Technology) or 1970 (Oxford Polytechnic)? It is unlikely that we can find the "right" established-in-another-form year for each institution. So I propose to undo my two additions and delete the phrase "while the second gives the year the institution was established in another form (for example if it was previously a College or a Central Institution)." Any objections? - Pointillist (talk) 21:58, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like a working solution for most institutions - London colleges are a problem though (as usual). They're down as being universities from their date of foundation in some cases and their date of becoming colleges in others. I wonder if the solution (as on List of UK universities by date of foundation is simply to put the London colleges in a separate table. Another alternative would be to bracket their year of foundation to match other colleges and not give a year for their becoming universities. City will make things even more complex next year by ceasing to be a university and becoming a London college. Any thoughts? Robminchin (talk) 02:43, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Leeds Trinity

[edit]

How come Leeds Trinity University College is not in the list? It became independent in 2009. IJA (talk) 10:45, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BPP

[edit]

And shouldn't BPP be listed? What other private universities? Whysacre (talk) 15:22, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rankings

[edit]

Please add rankings similar to this page:

List of universities and higher education colleges in London

thanks Pcll2000 (talk) 03:46, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That article, with rankings that are seven years out of date, shows why this would be a bad idea. They wouldn't add anything to this page and they would go out of date. There are already rankings available at Rankings of universities in the United Kingdom, there's no need to duplicate that here. Robminchin (talk) 00:00, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
