Europe/Chisinau
Why do we use "Europe/Chisinau" instead of "Europe/Chișinău"? Does the tz database use the misspelled version? Super Ψ Dro 11:02, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- This is not unique Europe/Chisinau. All of the time zone identifiers are intentionally formed with ASCII characters only. The formatting rules for the identifiers is covered in the documentation. [1]. MapGrid (talk) 17:59, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks for the clarification. Super Ψ Dro 20:53, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
Europe/Berlin
Update becesseary ! Area(covered) must be changed from "most areas" to " all areas" or comment even deleted Sandkuhle (talk) 11:55, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Column 3 shows unmodified strings exactly as they appear in the database. This talk page is not the correct place to initiate changes in the database.
- The reason that the text shows "most areas" can be found here: Büsingen time zone.
Areas in which the clocks differed at any point since 1970 do not share time zones. MapGrid (talk) 14:15, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
Europe/Dublin
Is it me or are the times for Europe/Dublin mixed up? The page says that its UTC offset is +01:00 and the DST offset is +00:00. Shouldn't those be the other way around? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.80.250 (talk) 16:38, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- While most countries use the term "Standard Time" to mean the time that used in winter, the Irish legislation is written such that "Standard Time" applies in summer.
- For better or for worse, the database attempts to honor the legislation by:
- setting Irish Standard Time to UTC+01
- applying a negative daylight saving of 1 hour in the winter.
- Thus for Europe/Dublin, the 5th column represents summer time and the 6th column represents winter time.
- Somebody wrote a nice blog about it here: here. MapGrid (talk) 20:16, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
