Time

[edit]

Wouldn´t it be (more) interesting to mention from when to when these titles were claimed (and given up)? Compare http://worldstatesmen.org/Portugal.htm, Footnote 1 (The style of the ruler was...) --Roksanna (talk) 21:10, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Galicia

[edit]

Why is Galicia included but none of the long list of other Castilian titles and realms?--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 06:34, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

because galicia was actually held as a crown possession under those two kings, while claims to other castilian titles have been that, claims. Cheers, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 08:54, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No the part of Galicia they ruled became the Kingdom of Portugal in 1139. It ceased being Galicia at the point. The Kings of Portugal were no more Kings of Galicia then they were Kings of Goa. I do not believe that at the two times that the Kings of Portugal laid claimed to the Crown of Castile they were supported, acclaimed, and accepted by the Kingdom of Galicia, the part under Castilian control (wouldn't that be convenient). --The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 04:56, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify: Ferdinand was not acclaimed King of Galicia. In 1369, he laid claim on all the throne of Castile, i.e. Castile-Leon-Galicia-Toledo-Seville, etc. Galicia was just one area of military operations that happened to be nearest Portugal. There were also Portuguese operations in Leon, Extremadura and Andalusia. During his invasion of Galicia, many Galician nobles, ex-partisans of Peter the Cruel, did recognize Ferdinand as king, but as king of Castile. He was recognized as Castilian king by Petrists outside of Galicia too, e.g. in Carmona, Zamora, etc. As to "holding it", that's an exaggeration. He invaded, lingered for a month or so, then fled when the Trastamara army arrived. Walrasiad (talk) 13:47, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Titles of Spain Crown included in Portugal?

[edit]

Personal union of Philipp II of Spain and I of Portugal does not imply titles of Spanish are included in Portugal Crown and viceversa. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.34.127.118 (talk) 05:16, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Titles of Portuguese and Spain Crowns during Philip's Kings

[edit]

Hi Cristiano, I have deleted the titles associated to Spanish Crown because they are just attached to Spanish Crown.

Personal Union of Philip II of Spain and I of Portugal did not imply the mixing of titles of each ones crowns ... The titles are the result the reconquered lands and results of war treaties. So, it is not right keeping the Aragon and NAvarre titles in Portual Crown, because Portugal has not got any claims about these territories never.

About Castilla, after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_the_Castilian_Succession, where Portugal lost its rights over Kingdom Castilla, not more claims have been done for Kingdom. If some claim of title of Kingdom of Castille from Portugal had been done in the past, it had provoked a breaking of previous treaty.

So, it is not right include Spanish Crown in Portuguese Crown, altough all Kingdoms stayed under a same King and, additionally, being Kingdom Castile and Kingdom Portugal sons of Kingdom of Leon and Kingdom of Asturias, and these sons of Visigothic Kingdom, ruling the same Kings for all ones. Spanish Crown maintains titles inherited and conquisted, and some of them are "nominal" titles, like King of Two-Siciles, King of Algarves etc. and others are also nominal from Habsburg ancestory of Philip V (newphew-son of Charles II) of Borbon-Habsbourgh-Trastamara House.

For me the difference is clear; Portugal Crown's titles are attached to Braganza House and Spanish Crown ones are attached to Borbon-Habsbourgh-Trastamara House, in spite of Philip's shared Kings and common ancestors with Kingdom of Leon and Asturias and Visigothic Kingcom ... and indeed celtic, preceltic, basqueaquitan, and iberian peoples who are supposed be our first ancestors: Viriato, Indibil and Bronze of Ascoli peninsular indigenas.

If still interested in taking the titles for Portugal, it is not a big problem for me, but perhaps you should be take a look to this ...

Philip and Mary, by the Grace of God King and Queen of England, Spain, France, Jerusalem, both the Sicilies and Ireland, Defenders of the Faith, Archdukes of Austria, Dukes of Burgundy, Milan and Brabant, Counts of Habsburg, Flanders and Tirol.
