Defining First Film
I like the idea behind this page and find it a useful reference tool. However, I think it would be useful to clearly define 'first film by nation or successor state.'
Does this page list the first shot in a country or the first film shot by a native of the country?
For example, Roundhay Garden Scene was shot in the UK by a Frenchman. Does that make it first British film, the first French film, both or neither.
For Mexico, Don Juan Tenario was the first film made by a Mexican but preceded by Lumiere employee Gabriel Veyre's films.
For Indonesia, a film from 1950 is listed, although films were produced in the then Dutch colony pre-independence.
Perhaps the best solution is to have a column for first film shot and another one for first film made by a native of x country. Any thoughts?
