Non-state
[edit]It bears mentioning that there are a lot of academics and politicians who think that state terrorism is an oxymoron, so the article needs a clearer definition of terrorism to justify the "non-state" field. --Tyrannus Mundi (talk) 21:01, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Dissident republican activity
[edit]Dissident republican attacks and incidents have happened in Northern Ireland since the start of 2012. Some of which have been put on then removed. In the United Kingdom dissident republican activity is still classed as terrorism. I don't seen even the ones that have failed need to be removed. The attacks and failures in 2010 and 2011, List of terrorist incidents are still on there. Is there a viable reason for the incidents in Northern Ireland to be removed? If not I will be more then happy to post them on the 2012 list. CBSD.79 (talk) 16:17, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- I was wondering about this, actually.
I don't see a convincing reason for them to be removed.— Tyrannus Mundi 20:24, 28 April 2012 (UTC)- I've seen the rationale for removing them and I think it's reasonably clear they don't fit the standards that are laid down -- however I think the article title is much too vague, seeing as an "incident" can be absolutely anything. --Tyrannus Mundi (talk) 19:05, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- Right then. But I have found that one group called Óglaigh na hÉireann (Real IRA splinter group) has claimed responsibility for the attempted killing of a Scottish solider in Belfast back in January by using a bomb. Do you think that could be classed on here as a terrorist act? I do like to make a point. I know that some incidents in Northern Ireland are not notable here. But they are on the 2011 and 2010 lists and on there is was sorted that attacks by Dissident republican were terrorism, then all of a sudden it is not any more on 2012? In my view if they are not allowed on here then some, not saying all because I now the car bombings in Belfast and Derry are notable. Should be removed on the 2011 and 2012 lists. I also think the April van bomb in Newry is notable for the fact that the target was police and the van bomb had 600Ib of explosives. That is almost the same as the bomb which went off in Omagh in 1998. CBSD.79 (talk) 12:05 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- If they're listed on the other articles and don't meet the criteria then they should be removed. According to the rationale, to meet notability criteria the incidents in question need to have caused fatalities. --Tyrannus Mundi (talk) 13:13, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- I do a large part of the editing for this article and I removed the last few N. Ireland posts. I agree that the bomb was quite substantial, and had it gone off it would have most certainly caused a large number of casualties. However, the incident does not believe the criteria, as it was an attempted bombing, and one that is not part of a major conflict (on terror) and etc. A good example would be the recent bombing in Ukraine - nobody got killed, but it is significant as such attacks are rare in the country and it follows the trial of the ex-PM - hence, it is included. Attempted bombings in N.Ireland are somewhat more often in the news, and so we will not be including them in this list - it's the same as including every Iraq or Yemen attempt for example, and they are at least a few per day. My personal recommendation would be to clean up the 2010 and 2011 articles from similar N. Ireland incidents, leaving the ones that caused casualties or were significant in some other way. United States
[edit]Why aren't the recent United States shootings included in this list? Are they not considered terrorist acts? 64.229.5.242 (talk) 23:15, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- The Aurora, Colorado shooting would not be, however the more recent Wisconsin Sikh temple attack will probably be included in the list, I was just waiting for a bit more info on the suspect. Otherwise it looks more and more like a classic lone wolf attack. Skycycle (talk) 00:13, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
