Menara Keck Seng and YTL HQ Tower

[edit]

According to this page, Menara Keck Seng is 162 metres tall and YTL HQ Tower is 179 metres tall. Both heights are taken from CTBUH (Skyscrapercenter). The problem is that those towers are standing right next to each other and the height difference between those towers is obviously much bigger than 17 metres. It is more in the vicinity of 30 metres. So one of those heights must be wrong. On the other side of Menara Keck Seng there is the Westin Hotel, which is slightly (maybe 5 metres) shorter than Menara Keck Seng, if you do not count the roof structure with the logo. If you count the roof structure, the Westin Hotel is at least as tall as Menara Keck Seng. So if the height of Menara Keck Seng was true, the Westin Hotel would be at least 157 metres tall. If you compare those towers with other skyscrapers in that area though and assume that at least some of those heights are right, the height of 162 metres of Menara Keck Seng can't be true. It can be 149 metres tall at most. Then the height difference to YTL HQ Tower would also fit.

The problem with CTBUH/Skyscrapercenter as a source is that we do not know their sources for every number they publish. They are quite reliable when it comes to heights written in back (estimated heights are written in red), but while creating my own skyscraper database I noticed a number of errors in their database and this is one of them.

Pavilion Residences Tower 1 is listed as 154 metres tall, but it is clearly taller than Menara Keck Seng. Even Pavilion Residences Tower 2, the smaller of the Pavilion Residences towers, is visibly taller than Menara Keck Seng.

We can't be sure what the real heights of those towers are. The only thing we know for sure it that those heights can't all be true. At least one of them must be false.
