Holy Roman Empire

The Holy Roman Empire may not qualify as a sovereign state for this list. Following the Peace of Westphalia all the states of the Empire were granted sovereignty. Since 1648, it can thus be argued that the Holy Roman Empire ceased to exist as a sovereign states, and became purely a union of states, akin to the European Union. I would suggest that we should remove the Holy Roman Empire from this list. Johnny83m (talk) 23:55, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
