Energy drinks?

[edit]

Not sure that is a flavor by itself (never had one, believe it or not). Might be worth a short paragraph in the top, that energy drinks are a type of soft drink (I assume) but not in the list. My 2c. Dennis Brown |  | WER 15:56, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Needs a tighter definition, better sourcing

[edit]

This is a good idea, and could be a really fun (and really long) article, but I think it needs a tighter definition. When you say a soft drink is "usually" carbonated, it opens a can of worms: are tea, coffee, mate, kava soft drinks? And, as a kid I'd mix any two things in the cafeteria machine, but that doesn't mean it belongs on the list. I'd suggest maybe specifying that the list only includes drinks with added carbon dioxide (i.e. not beer and champagne), no alcohol (soft), and sold on the market as attested in a reliable source.

P.S. the article has been brought up at User talk:Jimbo Wales, which is generally a bad thing. Wnt (talk) 15:59, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since Soft drinks are prepared with both carbonated and non-carbonated waters and in both varieties, I disagree with the notion of limiting the list to carbonated soft drinks. It seems implied that alcoholic drinks are generally omitted per the definition of what soft drinks are. Regarding sourcing, please feel free to add more to this new article and work in progress. NorthAmerica1000 16:12, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you don't want to use that definition, how do you draw the line at tea, etc.? It's really important to be clear on that because a list like this is going to want to draw in every possible weird thing people drink. Wnt (talk) 16:24, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That hasn't been a problem thus far. Feel free to copy edit it (e.g. in the lead) to state that it's limited to soft drinks per the expanded encyclopedic definition of "soft drink" at Merriam-Webster (quoted below). NorthAmerica1000 16:34, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Saw this http://thefw.com/weird-coke-flavors/ and wondered, how do we draw the line between a flavor being "the" favor and just one of the flavors in the mix? Anyway, it will help to internationalize the article, I haven't added the "coffee" Coke or others yet. Also, why are we separating out citrus from the rest? If we had 3 or 4 sections like "citrus", it might make sense, but if we only have "all except citrus" and "citrus", I would learn towards integrating it into a single list. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:36, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re citrus: I have merged this into the main part of the article. I originally separated the list roughly per Category:Soft drink flavors. I'd like to keep the Specialty section separate, though, so that 1) everything isn't jumbled together, and 2) to differentiate from more common flavors. NorthAmerica1000 01:44, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The specialty flavors section does makes sense to me. There may be some debate over what is specialty (bacon?) and what is "normal" but that can be discussed as it arises. Dennis Brown |  | WER 02:33, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Falooda not sure that qualifies as a soft drink. It isn't carbonated, but it is a very popular drink in many parts of the world. If so, then basil is a flavor. Would love to try it, I grow basil just because I love the smell of the stuff. Dennis Brown |  | WER 17:47, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Falooda seems more like a prepared drink, similar to a dish, but in beverage form. However, homemade soft drinks most definitely exist. Regardless, thanks for the link; I learned about a new topic today. NorthAmerica1000 19:06, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

About time to start bearing down on stuff in the list without sources and that link to the fruit instead of to an article on sodas of that flavor.... Dennis Brown |  | WER 22:52, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
