Brand names
[edit]I have been removing some brand names from the list. I am now wondering if this is the right thing to do.
On the one hand, the same snack should only figure once in the list, no need to create doubt.
On the other hand, the brand names are interesting information.
Maybe we should put the brand names between brackets behind the generic name (if there is an separate article for the brand name, no need to create red links) ?

- It makes sense to limit the list to categorical types of snack foods, otherwise this list could become way too long. Northamerica1000(talk) 20:42, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Drinks
[edit]Do drinks really count as snacks? Slackmaster K 23:55, 27 March 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tsilb (talk • contribs)
- I don't think so. The Snack food article doesn't mention drinks. --Luxem (talk) 19:02, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- A milkshake is a drink that qualifies as a snack, in my opinion. Northamerica1000(talk) 11:32, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
The translations of the Chinese snacks are based on the following...

Reorganization
[edit]I've been reorganizing this article. It is prudent to limit the list to categorical types of snack foods, rather than listing every brand of snack food on the planet. Otherwise this list could become way too long and indiscriminate. So, I've been removing specific brands in favor of categorical-level types of listings. Why does this article exist?
[edit]Given that a snack can be a small portion of any food, this list will never be more than an incomplete sample of all foods on the planet. Can someone please explain why this article exists? Otherwise, I think it should be deleted, or perhaps renamed “List of foods” or “Ideas for snacks”.
It seems to have no encyclopaedic value.

List of snack foods → List of snacks – Consistency with the main article "snack(s)". This idea was brought up during an RM on Talk:Snack. Anarchyte (work | talk) 11:25, 16 June 2016 (UTC) relisted --Mike Cline (talk) 13:09, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose: per WP:CONSISTENCY and WP:PRECISE, see the comparable list of breakfast foods. Not all snacks involve snack foods. Ebonelm (talk) 13:23, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- Comment. There is no clear distinction between a food item that is a "snack food" and food item that is not. For example, this list includes pancakes and pizza. Eat a silver-dollar sized pancake or two mid-morning and I suppose you could call that a snack. Eat a stack of three full-sized pancakes topped with syrup, with sausage on the side, and I call that breakfast. Eat a half slice of leftover pizza at 11 pm and call that a late night snack. Eat four slices at 6 pm and I'd call that dinner. The distinction between what is a "snack food" vs. what's a "convenience food" or "junk food" is probably clear as mud to most people, and different people will likely have different opinions on which particular foods slot into which category or categories. wbm1058 (talk) 14:33, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose The article Snack is not specifically about food, but a bit about the activity, it seems, so that article, as currently named, looks okay. As for this, it's about the foods typically confused for snack, and not a list of snack activities. Hence, the list should stay where it is. Check Snack § See also for some comparable lists that should be included in this RM if we really were to move this. — Andy W. (talk · ctb) 18:32, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- On the other hand, we have List of Japanese snacks. wbm1058 (talk) 23:21, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support - The suggested title is more concise. All snacks are food so including "food" in the page name is redundant. Meatsgains (talk) 21:21, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Meatsgains, well by that logic shouldn't this article just be 'list of foods' given that any food can be eaten as a snack? Snack foods are a specific subset of foods which are typically or exclusively used for snacking. Ebonelm (talk) 16:45, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
- False, not every food is a snack. All snacks are food but not all food are snacks. Meatsgains (talk) 17:01, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Cookies in Australia
[edit]In Australia, cookies are called biscuits, just because American fast food outlets call them cookies doesn't mean the word cookie is used widely in Australia. If you look in a supermarket for cookies you will never find cookies only biscuits. BigFreeze (talk) 19:48, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

Thosai (fermented pulses)
[edit]I think that the article that this is linked to is incorrect, I'm pretty sure that by fermented pulses it means the legume, not the medical term? MisterN1C022 (talk) 16:08, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
