TiVo and its TiVo DVR boxes are not a Smart TV platform or middleware yet

[edit]

In my opinion TiVo and its TiVo DVRs (Digital Video Recorders) can not yet be classified as a Smart TV platform or middleware yet, because it does just not offer the addon application plugins, internet connectivity and social networking features that are associated with a Smart TV / Connected TV platform so far. 164.4.17.32 (talk) 14:20, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

TiVo have no public SDK (Software Development Kit) for apps nor an app store, such as the iPhone/iPad and other Smart TV devices have. And since user installable apps/addons/plugins which is kind of the definition of a Smart TV platform/middleware the the TiVo does not yet quite fit the bill, but if and when the TiVo gets an app store just like the iPhone/iPad then I think that it can be called a Smart TV platform/middleware. 164.4.17.33 (talk) 09:46, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apple TV or iOS is not a Smart TV platform or middleware yet

[edit]

In my opinion Apple TV can not yet be classified as a Smart TV platform and neither can iOS be classified a Smart TV middleware yet, because the Apple TV which is the only "made for TV" hardware does just not offer the addon application plugins, internet connectivity and social networking features that are associated with a Smart TV / Connected TV platform so far. 164.4.17.32 (talk) 06:36, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Apple TV's is increasing in importance but as Megan Lavey-Heaton of TUAW (The Unofficial Apple Weblog) writes here: http://www.tuaw.com/2012/08/06/the-apple-tvs-increasing-importance/ "Forbes agrees with Barrett's stance, wondering if the Apple TV has become a legitimate platform rather than the hobby Steve Jobs tinkered with. I think it'll achieve this status when an Apple TV SDK comes out." 164.4.17.32 (talk) 08:42, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps its time to add tvOS to the list of platforms? The SDK seems to be available now. Stardancer (talk) 19:31, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PlayStation 3 is not quite a Smart TV platform or middleware?

[edit]

In my opinion PlayStation 3 (PS3) game-console can not be classified as a Smart TV platform and neither can it be classified a Smart TV middleware yet, because the PS3 which is the only "made for TV" hardware does just not quite offer the width of addon generic application plugins, internet connectivity and social networking features that are associated with a Smart TV / Connected TV platform so far. 164.4.17.32 (talk) 12:46, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Xbox 360 is not quite a Smart TV platform or middleware?

[edit]

In my opinion Xbox 360 game-console can not be classified as a Smart TV platform and neither can it be classified a Smart TV middleware yet, because the Xbox 360 which is the only "made for TV" hardware does just not quite offer the width of addon generic application plugins, internet connectivity and social networking features that are associated with a Smart TV / Connected TV platform so far. It should however be noted that the comming next-generation Xbox 360 software update will contain Microsoft Mediaroom Smart TV middleware platform, but that does not make Xbox 360 in itself a middleware 164.4.17.32 (talk) 12:46, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Miomni is not a Smart TV platform or middleware

[edit]

Removed Miomni from under the "Smart TV#Middleware provider for TV set or TV companion box available to multiple third-parties" section because Miomni only makes content apps for other platforms such as Yahoo! Connected TV, Miomni do not make a Smart TV middleware framework themselves. If we listed it then you have to list all other makes of content apps including YouTube, etc. 08:23, 4 January 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.4.17.32 (talk)

LG's webOS

[edit]

Should LG's webOS feature in the first list on this page? At the moment I can only see it in the second list. 91.135.7.188 (talk) 13:52, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
