Japanese ferry Nankai Maru, Wakayama-Tokushima route ferry, capsized by rough sea off Awaji Island, Japan, this accident death number of all 168 people. ^{[citation needed]}

Turkish ferry Uskudar and Golcuk-Izmit route, carrying 500 people onboard mostly high school students, capsized in Bay of Izmit, Kocaeli, Turkey, at least 200 people are rescued with at laest 300 people drowned. ^{[citation needed]}
