Explorer, et al

[edit]

I was tempted to remover the recent addition of the Explorer to the list, as it seems the "berg" in question was actually a growler raft which the captain blithely sailed through mistaking it for flimsier sea (salt-water) ice ...but have left the addition in because the Explorer's own article uses "iceberg" even though that's probably incorrect at least vis-a-vis what the common perception of an "iceberg" actually is (i.e., something big enough that you obviously would rather not hit it).

My hope was to keep the list "non-exhaustive" and thus focused mainly on the tragedies. I.e., dozens of ships have rammed icebergs but survived; and others have sunk (slowly, after everyone was rescued) after springing minor but unstoppable leaks while deliberately traversing fields of small ice (as the Explorer was) or becoming trapped within a pinched-off ice lead and being slowly hull-crushed as they wintered stranded. If all of the latter were included, the list would be a mile-long and of mainly non-notable sinkings.--Mike18xx (talk) 18:33, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Did the Albatross, Borston and Gibralter even exist?

[edit]

It seems to me that the three listed incidents from 1905 are non-existent. I have not been able to find any information on them or even any mention of them besides on this page and a few other webpages citing this page. Even the meticulous wrecksite.eu doesn't have them listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:3D08:5D81:E200:E0E3:9461:A63F:FF6D (talk) 20:27, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
