Defining genre and distinguishing from sex ed films
[edit]Something I worry about when creating a list about a niche genre like this is whether it's effectively "carving reality at its joints". In this case, I thought about whether it would be better to retitle the article using more modern terminology like List of sex education films, and include more modern examples like Growing Up (1971 film). But I do think it makes sense to think of these as separate phenomenona. Sex hygiene films will generally meet most (though not necessarily all) of these criteria, whereas "sex ed" films will generally meet few or none of them:
- Produced by a major studio
- Full length
- Released in theatres
- Fictional/dramatic
