The reason we have this article
[edit]The List of school shootings in the United States is very long and unwieldy, so this article was created to list school mass shootings only.
According to the Congressional Research Service, mass shootings are defined as "a multiple homicide incident in which four or more victims are murdered with firearms, within one event, and in one or more locations in close proximity" ----TheHoax (talk) 04:48, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

The title
[edit]- The title List of school mass shootings in the United States is rather awkward. This is probably because the phrase mass shooting isn't quite common enough (!) to take another modifier tacked on in front and still flow. One reads it, pauses, and takes a moment to wonder what "school mass" is. (The amount of matter comprising a school? A religious ceremony at certain schools?) A similar problem would exist for List of mass school shootings in the United States, although I think that probably reads slightly better. I'd be inclined to suggest something along the lines of List of mass shootings at schools in the United States—a trifle longer but it reads way better. RivertorchFIREWATER 06:30, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
