Venerations

[edit]

In March, Francis cleared for beatification Maria Theresia Bonzel, Manuel Basulto Jimenez, Jose Maximo Moro Briz, Vladimir Ghika, Joaquin Jovani Marin, Miguel Francisco Gonzalez-Diez Gonalez-Nunez, Giuseppe Girotti, Sandor Istvan, and Rolando Rivi; the others were declared Venerable. Giuseppe Girotti

[edit]

The decree from the CCS on 27 March 2013 mentioning Giuseppe Girotti referred to his martyrdom, not his heroic virtues. This was also true of 61 other people in seven causes, all of whom were listed here under beatifications rather than venerations. (There would be more if we counted other decrees from the same year.) It may be accurate to call him Venerable while he's awaiting his beatification ceremony, but if so shouldn't we move all the others up to the "venerations" section? In interests of consistency, I suggest we stop putting him in the "venerations" and leave him in the "beatifications". The text of the decree, btw, can be found here: http://newsaints.faithweb.com/news.htm

Suggested Beatifications

[edit]

"Suggested beatifications" could reasonably be extended to all Venerables, or even all Servants of God. I don't see how it is a useful category. Ansat (talk) 00:49, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removed unsourced info

[edit]

He canonized a record number of individuals since he was elected pope in 2013. In his first canonization mass he exceeded the number of saints made than that of Pope John Paul II in his entire pontificate.

was removed from the introduction as unsourced. I don't even think it is true and could just be a bad copy/paste/edit from another article. I wasn't able to find the original edit in the article history to make a determination. I'm leaving it here in case someone has more info. — MrDolomite • Talk 19:28, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Future canonizations are not in the scope of this article

[edit]

I don't see how this is a list of people expected to be canonized by Pope Francis, so I suggest we keep the scope of this article limited to the people who have actually already been canonized during his pontificate. Elizium23 (talk) 23:27, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the additions of speculation about future canonizations is accompanied by zero sources, reliable or not. Therefore I remain doubly opposed to their inclusion. Elizium23 (talk) 02:45, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The latest round of predictions are canonizations set for May. It should be noted that we already decided that the direct interwiki links are against guidelines such as WP:NONENGEL and should instead be implemented as {{ill}} templates. Elizium23 (talk) 13:21, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
