Revamp of Page

[edit]

I am suggesting a Template Style Revamp, with a Table displaying a GIF of the Route Shield Mentioned (These can be sourced from various places, or created easily. The Table can be clean and easy to find information with approriate route shield, list of lanes in each way (Carridgeway), Location, Name, etc. It is a major job, but this article is in a bad need of a simplification as it is very long and complicated. OK, I have made the template Template:Australian road routes table. It will accept up to 5 via_localities and up to 30 different roads. Have a look at my first two contributions and you'll get the idea. However it's time for bed. Hope this helps. Feel free to edit the template if you're confident! The template should be able to be used Australia-wide if wanted. Ian peters 18:43, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK I've done through to Route 66. However, I can't do much more as I'm leaving the state! I'll leave the revamp notice up - if someone gets a chance and is inspired, they may be able to do the rest? Otherwise I'll get back to it when I get some free time (maybe not for a while). Ian peters 15:54, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Revamp

[edit]

One idea is:

Route 2: Joondalup to Baldivis via Perth
Mitchell Freeway: Triple and Quad carridgeway
Kwinana Freeway: Triple and Quad carridgeway

I've implemented it for the first 8 routes Trisreed my talk my contribs 09:24, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This has worked and looked out better then I expected to be honest - I would have thought a table system would have being better, but nonetheless - I think we will work with this model. I also believe since this is Perth Major roads, that rural routes should be excluded and be detailed under there own names as this is Perth major roads, and the rest of WAs Rural Routes should have there own articles under there specifc road names. - Boochan 17:17, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of non-perth routes

[edit]

Where should the non-perth routes be moved to since they have been removed? ~ Trisreed my talk my contribs 06:28, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is a need for the non-highway Rural Rotes to be listed - No other Town/City in Australia has them listed, and theres A LOT of them around. - As well as the fact post of them are just minor routes to smallish country towns, and the ones that are highway status are already listed. Suggested merger

[edit]

I've suggested the lists of List of major roads in Perth, Western Australia be merged into this article. The reasons I suggest this are twofold:

1. Information is duplicated in each place - additional maintenance

2. The other two lists do not provide much of encyclopaedic benefit.

Simply categorising roads based on their name is misleading. The name "highway" implies the road is of a higher standard than ordinary streets, roads etc, yet I can think of many "roads", "drives", "avenues" etc in Perth which are of a higher standard/higher traffic volume than some of the highways. Likewise applies to freeways - much of Roe Highway is more of a "freeway" than the Graham Farmer Freeway.

Thoughts? Ian peters 15:10, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - I created the two lists a while ago as they provide important general information in a short and quick matter. They need little-no maintainece, as well as being created in co-ordience with how they are created in the Melbourne and Syndey road articles. Basically, they are just summary articles.
I suggest something similar, but modifiying this page to separate the Highways, Freeways and Major Routmarked Roads in different sections. I am still open to extra ideas, but this article is rather long and detailed currently and it may be an inconvenience for people looking for specfiic named freeways or highways, which is why I created the other two articles and there respective category tree when I started creating Perth Road articles. - Boochan 16:32, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I'll do:

  • rename this list "List of major roads in Perth, Western Australia"
  • create new list "List of highways and major roads in rural Western Australia"

Then achieve the separation by categorizing each road:

  • Creating a category called "Roads in Western Australia" (subcategory of Australian Highways).
    • subcategory called "Freeways in Perth, Western Australia"
    • subcategory called "Highways in Perth, Western Australia"
    • subcategory called "Major roads in Perth, Western Australia"
    • subcategory called "Highways and rural Western Australia"
    • subcategory called "Major roads in rural Western Australia"

This will replace the current somewhat random structure. Ian peters 05:37, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a good structure to me. Definite Thumbs up from me now in merging the articles, as it represents that the article has all types of roads included. - Boochan 06:07, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've started on the page - List of major roads in Perth, Western Australia including a new Template:Australian lists of roads table. It keeps the sequential routes, but does the classification thing. Thoughts? Ian peters 16:02, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great Work There. I think you've done it spot on. The Route Shields could go up to about 30 or 40px though with sufficient room. If you need me to do some modifications (Some of the data is a little incorrect) or additions, I won't mind either. Certainly gets my tick of approval =) - Boochan 04:53, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Route 87

[edit]

Is it true that Burns Beach Road has a state route? I have the 2003 Perth map which does not show that it has one. RaNdOm26 08:08, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

The result was to reformat and merge into List of road routes in Western Australia. - Evad37 (talk) 01:57, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that List of road routes in Perth, Western Australia and List of road routes in rural and remote Western Australia be merged into a new article List of road routes in Western Australia (draft version located in my sandbox). I I think that there is no need to split road routes between Perth and the rest of WA - it is harder to get an overview of the routes that lead out of Perth, as one has to flick between two pages due to the divide at the edge of the metro area, and its not like there are any duplicated route numbers that need to be distinguished. I actually can't think of a good reason to keep the articles separate, as merging shouldn't cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned.

A separate issue that can be discussed at the same time is the content and formatting of the route tables. First, do we need the number of lanes and carriageway type? I don't know of any reliable source to verify the information (per WP:VERIFY), or if it is even needed in the list/s - many other regions, such as in the US and UK, don't contain this information in their lists. Secondly, they seem cluttered and poorly organised to me, with excessively large images and spacing between routes, and text formatting in contradiction to MOS:TEXT (regarding bold, italics, and font size). The version in my sandbox uses tables with a simpler, more compact format, with everything for one route on one table row, without white spaces in between routes. - Evad37 (talk) 03:01, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Clarifying that my support is explicitly for both proposals - the merger and the extensive reformatting. Orderinchaos 08:22, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
