Talk:List of recurring robot characters from Futurama
This article was created because of a good suggest at the Recurring characters of Futurama talk page, and because that article was getting too long. Captain Jackson 04:20, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Where's Calculon?
[edit]?
Bender is missing. He is a robot as well! o=(8E3)
- He has his own page which you can get to via Bender (Futurama) or Bender Bending Rodriguez or a variety of other ways. Also he is a major character, not just recurring, so there's no reason to list him here. Stardust8212 00:55, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Redirects
[edit]Some redirects pointing at List of recurring non-robot characters from Futurama should probably be pointing here instead. Alphonze 04:56, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Removing
[edit]Some of the characters have their own article, and, therfore, should be removed.
Note to anyone intending on splitting off a section
[edit]This page has been processed by N-Bot, which, for browsing convenience, changes links to redirects to lists to links to the relevant list sections: e.g. [[The Robot Devil]] is changed to [[List of recurring robot characters from Futurama#The Robot Devil|The Robot Devil]].
As a result, anyone who intends to split a section out of this page should be aware that, as of 14 June 2006, the following sections were linked to from the following pages:
- The Robot Devil: Alien hand syndrome, Bender (Futurama), Philip J. Fry, Robotology, Timeline of Futurama, Beelzebub (disambiguation), Holophonor
- Robot Santa: Simpsons Christmas Stories
~~ N-Bot (t/c) 18:04, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Monique
[edit]I don't believe there is an article about Monique and she is not on this page. I can add the section, but I just wanted to make sure that she isn't somewhere else. The Crushinator is also not featured. --WillMak050389 15:28, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Humor bot
[edit]Something is missing from the entry but I don't know what the missing word should be:
- A robotic comedian. Humor-Bot hosts the a show titled Late Night in Bend Her with , but still appears in the Comedy Simulator's amateur night in That's Lobstertainment!.
If someone could clear that up it would be great.
- Fixed, it was Coilette. --WillMak050389 21:30, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Characters with their own page
[edit]Right now this only applys to Calculon and I just did the same thing over at List of recurring non-robot characters from Futurama and nobody had any comments but I thought I'd ask first anyway. Shouldn't Calculon be listed along with the rest of the characters here and then linked to his main page like so:
Calculon
[edit]I think that would clear up a lot of confusion like the comment left at the top of this page. Comments are more than welcome. Stardust8212 20:28, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's been over ten days, if nobody says something soon I'm likely to just go ahead and assume you all agree with me. Stardust8212 19:21, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
BENDER! Where is Bender?
[edit]I know Bender has his own page, but he has to be listed here, doesn't he?
Feel free to add Bender to the list and link to the main article. CarlFink 14:04, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Alternatively, see my answer in #Where's Calculon above. Stardust8212 14:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Preacherbot
[edit]since when was preacherbots name Lionel, i dont remember being heard in any epsisode? LongBay
- It's mentioned in a deleted scene from "Xmas Story." - Jasonbres (talk) 20:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Trim List
[edit]I've recently completed a trim of List of recurring human characters from Futurama and I think this list, while not as overgrown as that one, could also do with some trimming. I'll propose it now and if I don't hear reasoning against it in about two weeks I'll probably go ahead and do it. If you disagree with only one item of the list or the whole list please make that clear in your reply, thanks. Current list:
- Boxy
- Calculon
- The Crushinator
- Fat-Bot
- Fender
- Flexo
- Gypsy Booth
- Hedonism-Bot
- Humorbot 5.0
- Malfunctioning Eddie
- Monique
- Reverend Preacherbot
- Roberto
- The Robot Devil
- The Robot Elders
- The Robot Mafia
- Robot Santa
- Tinny Tim
- URL
- iZac
My proposed new list:
- Boxy
- Calculon
- Flexo
- Monique
- Reverend Preacherbot
- Roberto
- The Robot Devil
- The Robot Mafia
- Robot Santa
- Tinny Tim
- URL
Discuss. Stardust8212 01:22, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK, it's been over two weeks so I have made my proposed changes. I decided to leave Kwanzaa Bot since he apparently appears in the new movie. After I see the movie to determine the significance of his appearance I may still remove him but I gave it the benefit of the doubt for now. Stardust8212 01:10, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]section header added for less scrolling and easier editing
- While I generally agree that it is good to aim for concision and brevity, I think you've gone a bit too far! I'm surprised you felt the need to remove Fatbot and the Gypsy Booth, for example, given that they both appear a number of times and each could potentially have at least as much information written about them as do Kwanza Bot or Monique or Boxy. If Gypsy Booth and Fatbot go then so should those three. Granted, the info that was there before you made your edits (26/12/07) wasn't great but I think that both should have been expanded, not removed. What was your reasoning behind keeping some and losing the others? Do you mind if I suggest that a kind of quota should be used: if a character has a speaking role in more than three episodes, or has a disproportionately large part or is a crucial aspect of the plot in two or one episodes only then it should be included as a recurring character. Anything less should be removed. Just a thought - I'm interested to hear your response. Another problem is that your edits have created a number of broken links because quite a few episode pages link here: for example I was redirected here when clicking on Fatbot on Obsoletely Fabulous. These links aren't flagged as broken because the page still exists but they effectively are. Beanrobot (talk) 23:24, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- My goal was to only include characters on the list which had significant recurring roles. To me this means appearing in more that one or two episodes with more than one or two lines in each. Futurama has a tendency to have characters show up again in later episodes but they often add nothing to the plot and I don't consider that to be a significant recurring role (i.e. "They were at Fry's Funeral in "The Sting"" or "They were on the robot island in "Crimes of the Hot" and on the wheel the devil spins in "The Devils Hands Are Idle Playthings"") I agree, I probably should have removed Boxy and Monique along with the others but I was trying to be rather liberal with my definition of recurring characters at that point so as not to make too many people angry. As for Kwanzaa-bot, he was added back to the article after I trimmed it and so was hedonism-bot. So...that wasn't me. Anyway, it took four months for anybody to comment on it so some things have changed since I made the list, like the release of Bender's Big Score. I wouldn't say someone with a large plot in a single episode should be on this list unless they make appearances afterward (speaking appearances) for example Morgan Procter doesn't belong on the human list even though she was important to one episode, that's not my definition of a recurring character at least. Ideally the inclusion criteria here would be that the character was notable and could be proven to be so by having been discussed in reliable sources but that is a long way down the road from where we are now.
- Actually, thinking about Morgan Procter, I agree with you on the single episode thing, as all the information on her should be kept in the episode in which she appears. However, I'd say that any character that has a speaking role in more than one episode should be included, even if it doesn't have any bearing on the plot of one particular episode. In my experience, people often use Wikipedia to work out where they've seen a recurring character before; indeed the very reason that I clicked on Fatbot was to find out the name of the episode that he first appeared on. In any case, it often happens that a recurring one-joke character like Hedonism-bot actually becomes more important (e.g. commissioning the opera in The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings), it's just the way the Futurama writers work. Beanrobot (talk) 09:59, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I agree with your logic there, at least one of the appearances needs to be significant not just a one liner. I'd also think to be really recurring they'd need to be in more than two episodes. Plus if they become significant later on it's easy to write about them at that time, when there's enough info for a legitimate entry. Since WIkipedia is not paper we don't need to be in a rush to get the scoop before somebody else. Just as an exercise maybe you should try making a list of who you think should be included, you might want to start by looking at this version from before I trimmed the list as a reference. This would give me an idea of what you define as a recurring character v how I define it. Stardust8212 03:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

- As for the links, I've been removing them when I notice them but I don't know of a way to identify the links that go to sections that no longer exist without examining each one individually. If you know of a better way than going through every link on "What Links Here" then I'd be happy to hear about it.
- Fair point!! Beanrobot (talk) 09:59, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Surely the character of The Countess de la Roca is not a recurring character as she only appears in one episode. Even Lucy Liu has more appearances as a love interest of Bender! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.132.131 (talk) 16:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Hedonismbot
[edit]If you asked me, this guy needs a section. There is more than enough information about him, and he's had upwards of 3 appearences, so why not?
- I disagree, he has never played a significant role in an episode and there is virtually nothing to say about him. I see someone has added a section on him anyway which I think is ill advised. Stardust8212 00:08, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
We know he has a servent named Jomby, and he does play a semi-large role in The Devil's Hands. We also know that he was built with the taxpayer's dollars. He's had just as many appearences are Tinny Tim if I'm not mistaken. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.77.225.79 (talk) 23:56, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Small addendum: in the Beast With a Billion Backs, his pupils are square. I don't want to yank this tidbit without someone else's confirmation, or at least a prior warning. AFAIC, the fact that he was ever the one robot exception to this little characterization is somewhat noteworthy. San Diablo (talk) 22:47, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Missing Robots
[edit]Your are missing very many robots. Some of which appeared in many episode. This is not the full list, but some examples:
- Grim Reaper Bot (Appears 3 times)
- Suicide Booth (It is a robot because it talks, by the by. Appears 2 times)
- Birthday Card (Appears 2 times, second apparance on the wheel of robots in "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings")
- Tinny Tim (He has had an exceptionally large group of appearances.)
- Malfunctioning Eddie (Same as Tinny Tim)
Plenty more. Please add these. 204.11.191.49 (talk) 16:33, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Tinny Tim is on the list. Suicide booths are not robots and have their own page anyway. The others are minor characters, not significantly recurring and either never belonged on this page or were recently trimmed from it (see above). Stardust8212 18:50, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Chanukah Zombie
[edit]I removed Chanukah Zombie from this list since he's not a robot, with the intention of adding him to the recurring humans list, but then it occurred to me that he's only appeared once (and been mentioned one other time in passing), so he's not "recurring". --Arteitle (talk) 04:20, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- I fully support this action per the threads directly above this one. Stardust8212 13:38, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Merge Calculon?
[edit]Someone has added a merge template to Calculon suggesting it be merged, the merge suggestion was actually for Futurama but it would be more appropriate for it to be merged here (if it is merged) so I was bold and changed it. So, now would be the appropriate time to discuss the merits of such a merger.
I personally think the merge is a good idea since there is currently not enough information from reliable secondary sources to support it's own article and the few sources that may be available would serve to improve this article. My mind could easily be changed by the addition of a few (three or four) secondary sources assuming they gave the article a real world perspective. An appropriate article format to strive for would be Troy McClure. Stardust8212 22:38, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think a merge is a good idea. It makes sense to have all robotic characters in the same place. I'd actually think it would be a good idea to, possibly, merge the main characters into a single article, too, but that's a discussion for another... discussion... -- Chickenmonkey X sign? 22:58, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I note that tomorrow will be two weeks without any opposition to a merge of Calculon. I find that two weeks is generally an acceptable time to wait around before taking action and if there is no opposition by then I will likely go ahead with the merge (unless CM does it first). Stardust8212 20:42, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, if that is the case, then why won't we go for it? Pretty much everyone who posted here approves of this, right? ZeroGiga (talk) 21:22, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, only two of us responded, I generally wait two weeks if there aren't very many comments and that's today so go for it if you're feeling bold. Stardust8212 22:07, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Merge Tinny Tim
[edit]Tinny Tim was recently split from this article into the separate article Tinny Tim. While the new article does have three citations none of them are to reliable sources. I have found no evidence that the character will be able to meet the notability guideline of "significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject" as Google News yields no results. I recommend merging this minor character back into the list until there is enough coverage in reliable sources to establish individual notability. Stardust8212 00:14, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Uh, yeah, I can't think of a reason Tinny would be deserving of his own article... EVula // talk // ☯ // 01:01, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
