"Zoot Allures"
[edit]- See also Talk:Zoot Allures.
The article on Zoot Allures says that "The title track is a guitar vehichle, which adopts major ninth, minor seventh chords and lydian modalities as main ingredients" with no mention of fourths. As these seem incompatible analysis, one of them is wrong, and one or the other article needs adjustment, or we need to describe both viewpoints in the Zoot Allures article. List of quartal pieces → List of pieces which use quartal harmony – User:Hyacinth 10:25, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- Comment. Certainly the present title is not good; quartal tells us little, out of context. Same for pieces. I knew what it meant, when I saw the RM listed; but many readers would not. Also, which in that usage is not optimal. Some (especially in the US) would prefer that. So do I. Two alternatives come to mind:
- I think either of those would be better. I do not support the title so far proposed, nor the existing title.

- So should we change List of pieces that use serialism and twelve-tone and List of pieces which use the whole tone scale? Hyacinth (talk) 02:12, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
- Preferably, yes. Why does the first have "that" and the second "which", for a start? I like these forms best:
List of compositions using quartal harmony
List of compositions using serialism and twelve-tone
List of compositions using the whole tone scale- I might consider starting a multiple RM; perhaps include a few others at the same time. Consistency is not always small-minded! It's a good look.

- Oppose, There is no clear criterion as to what a "quartal composition" is. There're apparently only one or two songs, period, that are done entirely in quartals, and quartal harmony itself is so common that the list would include nearly every composition ever written in the past billion years. - The proposed title wouldn't use the term "quartal composition", so that wouldn't be a problem. Your "period" is incorrect, and if the criterion was so unclear you would be unable to make that distinction anyways. Hyacinth (talk) 02:16, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
