I feel like this page should be renamed to "List of Progressive House Producers", since most of the artists named are primarily producers, not DJs...that is, if it (the page) is at all necessary

Some of these I wold not class as prog house at all. Prog trance, yes. Just a quick look - above and beyond and Aly and fils don't fit in there — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.255.34.85 (talk) 20:15, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. It is clearly misnamed. - Shiftchange (talk) 01:28, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Artist called Mango

[edit]

There is an artist called Mango from Russia who makes house and progressive house music. However we do not have an article for them and they many not be notable enough for that and therefore for inclusion on this page. Regardless we cannot link to a fruit from a list of artists. - Shiftchange (talk) 21:13, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There should be a kind of system for artists to be listed here. Random musicians with articles shouldn't get a free pass. I propose adding only those with an article and a reliable source that relates progressive house to them. Everything else should be removed. — Zawl 09:38, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Zawl: this article was put up for deletion about a month ago, and I argued then that the majority of artists on this list would never be considered "progressive house" and should be removed unless sources described them as such. Ironically the articles for some DJs such as James Zabiela and Henry Saiz, who probably WOULD be classified as progressive house DJs, have recently been deleted from Wikipedia. But yes, this article (and the category) need severe pruning so it's not just a list of "any dance music DJ and producer". Richard3120 (talk) 17:38, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
IMO, most dance musicians nowadays are progressive house musicians. Since the genre isn't very popular with mainstream media, it doesn't get enough coverage so musicians don't get called progressive house musicians frequently. The list should be trimmed down to musicians who have progressive house listed in their infobox. — Zawl 17:47, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, to me, "progressive house" is a very particular type of dance music - to me, there is a world of difference between Sasha and John Digweed (who I love) and David Guetta and Avicii (who I can't stand)... to me it's like trying to compare Metallica and Katy Perry, I honestly can't hear any similarities at all in the style of music they play. But anyway, it's not about what I think - I totally agree with you, this list should only contain artists who have been described as progressive house, whether I agree with that term or not. There seems to be producers that are missing so I added them

[edit]

if you search marshmello, or alan walker on wikipedia It says the genre of music they make with one specifically shown as progressive house.

These producers may be well-known to most, but not everyone. But I also don’t quite understand why the writer of this topic has decided to say that no well known artists are to be put under the progressive house artists list.

I understand that marshmello may be more future bass/pop-dance/electronic but i think he has a progressive house kind of mix in some songs of his.

Not trying to cause a fuss, but why can’t well known artists be put in a topic they are supposed to be in? Smoremello (talk) 21:35, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Smoremello: it's not about whether you "think" these artists are progressive house, it's about whether they have actually been described as progressive house by reliable sources outside of Wikipedia. The fact that some of these artists have "progressive house" as their music style in the infoboxes on their Wikipedia pages doesn't mean that they are... in fact, unless there are reliable sources that use this description, "progressive house" and any other musical genre should be removed from the infoboxes on the artist pages as well.
