Cleared out the rubbish

[edit]

This list had grown absurdly, including even Irish Fenians who were tried and executed in Manchester in the 19th century. Let's all try to remember that Greater Manchester did not exist until 1974, and that every entry needs to be sourced. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 19:41, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It should be like the List of schools in Greater Manchester and List of people from London. The recent copy and paste job is a tragedy - totally useless to list people from a metropolitan county of 2.55 million, which has only existed form 1974. It breaks commonsense. What's the point of the List of people from Bolton if we're to have a duplicate here? Nonsense. --Jza84 |  Talk  20:50, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just seen the history of the page - given there's a consensus (as expected), I've reverted the page and protected it. Slap my wrist if needbe, but to me this is a case of WP:IAR. It was either that or block the individual concerned, so the lesser of two evils here. --Jza84 |  Talk  20:54, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The best choice I think. I'm sure Archangel1 means well, but (s)he needs to get involved in this discussion, not ignore it. Perhaps a reminder of WP:3RR may be in order as well, as I counted at least 4 reverts. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 22:19, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest Merge

[edit]

I suggest this is merged with List of people from Manchester, as while this list is currently empty it is a more natural criterion than a very narrow definition of Manchester, and and easier to determine if someone was born in GM than ManchesterBilllion (talk) 09:13, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
