Three, not two visits to Slovakia
[edit]JPII visited Slovakia 3 times. Two times independent Slovakia and once in Czechoslovakia. During his visit to Czechoslovakia, JPII visited Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia (kissing the Slovak soil at the Bratislava airport when he disembarked from his aircraft).
Why then is this visit not counted for Slovakia, but it is counted for the Czech Republic??? When even 2 stopovers in Alaska are counted???
Please fix this in the text and the map as well.
Yes, it is true, I wanted to write it here, but as I see, someone has already done it before. Please change it, and change the map too. He has been two times in independent Czech Republic, two times in independent Slovakia and once in Czechoslovakia. So there are two possibilities of how to count that: 2 times Slovakia, 2 times Czech Rep. and 1 time Czechoslovakia, or, 3 times Slovakia and 3 times Czech Rep. But not as it is in the article and in the picture as well! Why the same one visit in 1990 is counted to Czech Rep., but not to Slovakia? Please correct it. In the article and in the map. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.168.125.19 (talk) 13:27, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Seems nobody cared about it so I corrected it. And I corrected the map as well.--Peepay (talk) 19:55, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Visit to Montenegro
[edit]I deleted the visit to Montenegro (Serbia) in 1993 (April 28 – May 1 1993 - Montenegro), because I didn't find any note about this visit after the visit to Albania. There is also nothing about this visit in the homepage of Vatican.Kask (talk) 09:44, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
I deleted Montenegro from the "Countries visited - one visit" section. As noted above there is no mention of this visit on the Vatican website nor is it noted in George Weigel's biography of Pope John Paul II "Witness to Hope".

Format of list
[edit]I think that the recent changes to this page have been excellent. The addition of photos and a map are great improvements! Something that I think needs to be addressed is the list itself. It lists nations only for some trips but cities and nations for other trips. Also in some cases, the nation is listed first and then the city/cities are in parenthesis while it is reversed for other cases. The list should be consistent in how it presents this sort of info. Also, why are cities only listed for some of the trips? Perhaps the list should only list nations and the cities deleted?
Here is a page from the Vatican website (in Italian - I'm using Google to translate it) that lists all the cities visited by Pope John Paul II.
Finally, there are some corrections/additions to the list which I've been meaning to do but haven't had the time to do a complete proofreading. Hope to get those added soon.

I did some revisions to the list such as standardizing nations as being listed first and cities being listed second. Also added some notations for some of the trips such as those done in connection with World Youth Day, the Great Jubilee pilgimages, and pilgimages to Marian shrines.

Chronological list and countries
[edit]The countries are listed in the chronological list in *that* order. The sequence is the same as the sequence in which Pope John Paul II visited them. They are not listed alphabetically. Also, only countries are listed - not regional names such as "the Baltics", "Scandinavia", "the Middle East", "the Atlantic Seaboard", or "the West Indies". The one exception is "the Holy Land" which due to its religious importance is worth noting.
