CANI Collaboration
[edit]At the September 2012 CANI (Central Asian Numismatic Institute) there was a discussion of the need for public information about numismatic collections in Central Asia (this was defined quite broadly, with the core being Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Northern Afghanistan, but also other countries nearby and encompassed in political entities at various points). It had been agreed that members should be encouraged to supply information about collections they are familiar with. This talk page is being used to help collate information so that it can be used to create entries.
Uzbekistan
[edit]There is a particular need to add information about the museums in Uzbekistan. The three museums listed have only limited information and need explanding. However there are many Uzbek museums which do not appear on the list and probably have numismatic collections. Anyone who has information on these institutions is encouraged to add it. Also, some of these museums may exist in the Russian language version of wikipedia and a user familiar with that might be able to use the Russian language entry as a basis. At the least if a user can confirm the correct name for a museum and that it has a numismatic collection it could be added to this list page.

Creation
[edit]This list was created from a deleted template. Feel free to change it, rename it, or nominate it for deletion. --Kevlar (talk • contribs) 23:58, 8 October 2008 (UTC) As it stands deletion seems logical. With three exceptions the museums mentioned are not numismatic museums at all but historical/cultural museums. The page should probably be renamed List of numismatic collections. Wikipedia needs such a list, I have tidied up here, the original list is now major world collections by size. I have added a by country list and have populated Pakistan and Afghanistan with those museums I know to have significant collections. The Indian museums have no pages at present so I have included external links as I assume my having visited both does not count. The entries for the museums need details of their numismatic collections adding which I will begin doing early next week when I can access those references.RobertBr (talk) 21:32, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
