[edit]I am not sure if I detracted from the original intent of this page, which may have been specifically dealing with the 1996 census. If so tell me. If not then there were a few "neighbourhoods" that i chose to omit but may legitimately be up for inclusion, them being... Polo Park , Downtown Winnipeg , The Forks, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Census problem
[edit]The problem with using the federal census to decide whether a neighbourhood is major or not is that the boundaries change from census to census, and some major neighbourhoods (as shown by the City of Winnipeg's non-census maps and other reliable third-party maps) don't correlate to the boundaries Statscan uses. For instance, Fort Rouge and River Heights are counted together by Statscan, and at least one census division of St. Vital excludes a big chunk of southwestern St. Vital which is undoubtedly part of the ward - it gets thrown in with Fort Garry. I've pruned the major neighbourhoods to the wards shown on various maps - my main source is Sherlock's but the transit map and some municipal maps show the same boundaries. (These are generally the communities that joined to make Unicity, plus St. Norbert and the Northwest.) The Maples, for instance, is part of the Northwest. Lindenwoods is part of Fort Garry. Polo Park is either part of St. James or of the West End - most maps show the boundary as the CPR La Riviere line, but the census shows (I think) Century as the boundary - but it's not a separate ward in any case. Reliable sources simply don't show it as such. --NellieBly (talk) 23:05, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've also edited some of the links - the current consensus is that neighbourhoods should be named [[Neighbourhood, City]] and not just [[Neighbourhood]] or [[Neighbourhood, Manitoba]]. I've also removed the ward listings from the directory - they're at the top of the page, so there's no need to duplicate them below - and removed the link to the CBC article on the Maples, since there's no need for it. It can be used in the article on the Maples once I or someone else write it. --NellieBly (talk) 23:16, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
- Some editing done on this page led me here. No, if you look at old (ancient) maps of Winnipeg, Lindenwoods i
swas part of the old Town of Tuxedo, including a portion of Tuxedo south designated for industrial uses. You might be confusing that with Whyte Ridge whichiswas part of the RM of Fort Garry. Jimj wpg (talk) 18:23, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
Undiscussed move has been reverted
[edit]This article was recently moved without discussion to Neighbourhoods in Winnipeg based on rationale that the article is going to be edited in the future to be more than just a list. The move has been reverted. If this article is to be edited in the future to be more than just a list, do so first and then propose a move. That being said, no matter how much additional content is added, I have no doubt the article will still be a list and its current name will remain appropriate. See List of neighbourhoods in Calgary and List of neighbourhoods in Edmonton. They both have much more content than a bare simple list as this list currently is, but remain at the List of neighbourhoods in "city" title. Hwy43 (talk) 19:53, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Community Area
[edit]How does a neighbourhood (such as River Heights), or a whole suburb (like Fort Garry) become a "Community area"? If so, why aren't all neighbourhoods and major suburbs listed in that section? Why isn't Rockwood, Winnipeg, an area I grew up in, not listed? I feel the Community area section can be deleted. It's just extra duplication. Why do we have a "List of..." page, when we already have Template:WinnipegNeighbourhoods?Jimj wpg (talk) 18:31, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
