Talk:List of most popular dog breeds in the United States
Boxers
[edit]"Boxers are fearless"
- No, they are not. They are (when raised in secure, loving homes) brave -- but that is already stated, with the adjective 'brave'. 'Fearless' is a misnomer that could intimidate people and undermine the best interests of the dogs themselves. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:702:1:9874:A161:214D:23B3:878E (talk) 02:02, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Pug stats really inflated
[edit]Obviously, the pug does not receive almost 10,000x as many registrations in the UK Kennel Club as in the US Kennel Club, which is what this article says for 2006. Pugs are probably not as popular as this article is making it seem. Although I guess that's a kind of funny wikipedia prank, it's probably not true. I'm not going to edit though because I'm not a regular editor here or anything. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coolsteralpha (talk • contribs) 22:39, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- I have reverted the recent edits made by an IP, which I think caused the inflated figures. Cockerpoo had also been added. Hopefully this has corrected the problem. SagaciousPhil - Chat 07:36, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Strange opinion near end of article
[edit]'...Hunting is popular in Italy and this explains why hunt-and-retrieve breeds like the English Setter and the German Shorthaired pointer are widespread....' . . This is an odd opinion to include in this article for a couple reasons. . . First, given that German Shepard (not a hunt-and-retrieve breed) is ranked second, it would appear that the percentage of hunt-and-retrieve breeds in Italy is lower than percentages of hunt-and-retrieve breeds in areas covered by the UK kennel club (for which hunt-and-retrieve breeds make up the top four spots) ...which given the restrictions on fire arms would presumably not be a place where hunting is popular. . . Second, it is odd to choose the #10 spot German Shorthaired pointer as representing widespread ownership of hunt-and-retrieve breed, since there are five other hunt-and-retrieve breeds more popular in Italy, besides the already mentioned English Setter. . . The sentence gives the appearance of unsupported poorly-conceived conjecture.

[edit]Can anyone (who knows about dogs)check this edit? Thanks,Super48paul (talk) 16:57, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Super48paul. I had glanced at it earlier but didn't have time to check. I tracked down the Italian Kennel Club figures via Wayback and it does seem that in Italy in 2009 English Setters had the highest registration figures with 14,411 (Golden retrievers had 3,800) so I have reverted the edit. Stats not by registrations?
[edit]Feel like what breeds get registered may be skewed. Is there a study that estimates dog populations? 104.232.119.107 (talk) 11:23, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
