Under the Bridge by Jawed. https://web.archive.org/web/20050630020331/http://www.youtube.com/videos_page.php

Pretty solid lead too so it held for a bit 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:39F0:A5AD:D4F9:C8E1 (talk) 19:49, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

https://web.archive.org/web/20050702235943/http://www.youtube.com:80/videos_page.php still in the lead on July 2nd 2005 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:39F0:A5AD:D4F9:C8E1 (talk) 19:52, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
Ok apparently since I was last here someone else has been on the same mission i've been doing on and off(I posted this specific one years and years ago as it's the easiest to find).
I was gonna say I believe the 'Tow Chinese I Want it That Way" was seemingly the most viewed video prior to big spike in November caused by Touch of Gold and I/O Brush and the like, and it was first uploaded on June 26th so it's a question of when it overtook Under the Bridge, but again someone beat me to it. Congrats, not alone on this mission anymore 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:39F0:A5AD:D4F9:C8E1 (talk) 20:37, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

About the older video stuff

Two things I wanna note

  1. A lot of info seems contradictory, like archives from the same day show videos with radically different numbers(Was the Tow Chinese video at 100k or 400k views at the start of December, most viewed page says the former, https://web.archive.org/web/20051212175016/http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=Lb6eAnp0Yec says the latter. It's hard to tell what's an old Youtube error, what's Wayback mislabeling dates of info, and what's real). So triple check everything.
  2. If we've cleanly established a verifiable trail from I/O Brush and Touch of Gold back to Jawed's under the bridge, that cleans up a lot of the gap. The June 30th and July 2nd 2005 rankings are the only solid most viewed rankings we have until December 2005(and as I said those have some funky results too) so clearing that gap helps. I'd still like more double checking of stuff. (For example, the first MOST VIEWED ALL TIME LIST after the gap here https://web.archive.org/web/20051220143655/http://www.youtube.com/browse.php?s=mp&t=a shows Crossbar as Number 1 and it isn't even on our list).
  3. The Top 5 in June 30th-July 2nd is our first solid data point. None of the videos pre-date June 11th, there's 5 on the first one, 4 of them are still there on July 2nd except the Utrecht video surged to 3rd place in just a few days and knocked Concorde out of the top 5. Under the Bridge had a strong lead so was probably Number 1 for the weeks prior, albeit I don't know where this page got it's 'took first place' date. The good news is prior to early June there had been only like 70 videos uploaded to Youtube(and I believe complete lists with URLs exist). There was a big spike around June 10th or so and seemingly Under the Bridge was the breakaway star of that batch. So if we can 100% confirm everything after that as listed above, we could try brute forcing with bits and pieces the 2 months of missing data between Under the Bridge and Me at the Zoo, just by checking every archived date of everything we can find and looking at views of other videos on that date in the sidebar. There was a small enough number of videos and it's only two months, it's doable to brute force.

Hunch says to look into the Flambe Video from April 24th. It was one of the earliest, and by June 30th it's the ONLY pre-June 11 video anywhere on the page(under the MOST ADDED TO FAVS ALL TIME ). It has 1443 views. 5th place in the top 5 is 2642 views and the only other video with more than 2000 on that page is another plane video by Jawed from June 11th.
More evidence would need to be gathered, but I've a hunch this was the top for a while prior to the June surge, maybe as far back as shortly after it's upload 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:D854:EE4D:BDD4:F17 (talk) 22:22, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

Also what's the source for when Flambe Disaster overtook the Day 1 videos?

Me at the Zoo and Snowboarding and junk? 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:F9CB:C502:D3D0:154 (talk) 17:54, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

I've seen Azai's data

I broadly like it, but two things

  1. Where is Crossbar? That was Number 1 on one of the Wayback things and it's still up
  2. Why does TOW Chinese stop at 230k when there's archived of it over 400k from December?

2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:F9CB:C502:D3D0:154 (talk) 17:51, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

Yeah I compared his December 20 to the archive, way wrong 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:F9CB:C502:D3D0:154 (talk) 18:22, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

weirdness

Here's the first full top 20 we have of most viewed videos, from December 2005. (We have Most Discussed and the most views that week/month/day for earlier and other dates though which does give some view info even if not everything is there)

https://web.archive.org/web/20051220143655/http://www.youtube.com/browse.php?s=mp&t=a

But, here's the archive for Tow Chinese from 3 days earlier. Note how it should really really be on the list, but isn't(and it's not like it's taken down, we have another archive of it in January with over 500k views) https://web.archive.org/web/20051217030152/http://www.youtube.com:80/watch.php?v=Lb6eAnp0Yec

So not only should it be there, it should be Number 5, yet it's missing. Curious. And also none of this looks like the data Azai had.

We really only care about who was Number 1 so this is a survivable oddity, but keep it in mind. Maybe the wayback mislabeled or dated some of it or maybe old Youtube was just finicky. Could be both. Double check data, check dates in the archives(things being 'a week ago' ' a month ago' 'x days ago' to help verify when they are for sure), all that.

Found an extra by tweaking the URL.
10 days apart All Time Most Viewed.
https://web.archive.org/web/20051210204430/http://www.youtube.com/browse.php?s=mp&t=a&page=1
https://web.archive.org/web/20051220143655/http://www.youtube.com/browse.php?s=mp&t=a
Now as I said, not sure if these are fully accurate, the Tow Chinese is missing in both despite other archives providing proof it had nearly 500k views. Still, no Touch of Gold at this point(I do see it in November at Number 1 with 400k tho)
