[edit]Any chance of seeing this page sorted chronologically? Rebecca 22:30, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'll sort it. I'd love some assistance with noting the years as mayor for each entry to make the load lighter ;) I've found a few. -- Longhair 18:57, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm going to be bold and move the alphabetical list to talk, so as not to mangle the main page while it's converted to chronological order. Rebecca 05:40, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
From what I have read, Foster Fyans was nominated to be the inaugural mayor, but the first mayor was Dr Alexander Thomson. I don't think Foster Fyans was ever Mayor of Geelong. Perhaps he was some sort of interim mayor until Alexander Thomson was elected, so I have left Fyans in the list pending further research. I have removed Austin Albert Austin as I cannot find anything that suggests he was ever Mayor of Geelong. Tilly Thompson seems to have been a Ballarat identity - no mention in her biography of her ever living in Geelong, though perhaps she was mayor somewhere. --Jacknstock 05:49, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- This is why I think it would be easier to work through this in chronological order. I've now got all the mayors since amalgamation in 1995. To go back any further we're going to work out which municipalities we want to include on this list (I'm assuming it's going to be more than the City of Geelong, since there were mayors of other shires on the list below). Rebecca 06:09, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think only mayors of Geelong should be included, as that is the title of the article. If a mayor of West Geelong or some other municipality is identified as notable, it would be better to create an article with the category of "Mayors of West Geelong" or "Mayors of Corio" or whatever. --Jacknstock 12:42, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Makes sense. In that case, we may as well kill the "pre-amalgamation" and "post-amalgamation headers. I really wonder if this level of referencing is necessary, though. It's important that we know it's accurate (and so a copy on a talk page, say, could be useful), but in its current form, I'm afraid it looks really rather ugly. Rebecca 12:44, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

- I reviewed the archived external link. It mentions the local government amalgamation in passing, but does not mention the earlier municipalities, so I added the citation used in the City of Greater Geelong article. Jack N. Stock (talk) 04:26, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
