Relevance?
[edit]How is the rather vague claim that "It is often claimed that the king wished to make York capital of England, but this is largely discounted by modern historians" relevant to the subject of the Lord Mayors of that city? And which king are they talking about? HrafnTalkStalk(P) 18:59, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Additionally, how is the City of York Council's appointment of a Sheriff relevant? HrafnTalkStalk(P) 06:43, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Sources
[edit]Care needs to be taken when sourcing information on York history. Very many of the sites on the internet are unreliable or even wrong (even on present day York tourism), or the origin of their information is doubtful. Remember, too, that information in old guides and local histories may have been superseded by subsequent research which is often not easily accessible on the internet.
On this topic, the main source of information is currently the official Mansion House pages. This is the website of the office of the Lord Mayor, the Mansion House being the official place of residence. Other reliable sources will exist, especially on particular periods or holders of the office. --AJHingston (talk) 17:23, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Jargon
[edit]Could somebody please explain what the following phrases mean:
- "confirmed to non-metropolitan district"
- "reconfirmed by letters patent to unitary authority"
If not, I'm proposing eliminating this material as doing nothing more than confusing the reader. HrafnTalkStalk(P) 18:38, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
