Some of the Members of Parliament listed here actually haven't served thirty years, for example, Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan. Why is that? J947 19:03, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan was a few months short of 30 years, so yes, she shouldn't be listed here. Are there other examples? Schwede66 22:05, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, James Macandrew, Maurice O'Rorke, and Harry Atmore. J947 02:26, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Whether Atmore has served for thirty years or not is disputed by Kiwichris. He cites a source which probably referred to Atmore as "serving for 30 years" or something like that. I get my information from looking at wikipedia articles which show Atmore serving for a few months less than 30 years. Thoughts? J947 07:03, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Let's look at a reliable source and apply WP:CALC. This is how Atmore is recorded in Wilson's Parliamentary History (1985, p. 181), with me then calculating the duration in days:
Electoral district Parliament Elected Seat vacated days
Nelson 18 14/12/1911 20/11/1914 1,073
Nelson 20–27 17/12/1919 21/08/1946 9,745
sum 10,818
days/year 365
years 29.64
Going by this simple calculation, he's served 29 years and 8 months. Schwede66 19:43, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As there have been no objections I am going to remove Atmore. J947 21:32, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I'm annoyed with you @kiwichris .. mind YOUR own bloody BUSINESS okay?! Ok. WatchtfOut143 (talk) 23:06, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kiwichris, any idea who it is who's annoyed with you? I'm asking because there aren't any contributions against the WatchtfOut143 account. Schwede66 05:59, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, no idea who this is or what it is about. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Kiwichris (talk) 08:24, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Annette King

[edit]

@Playlet: Given that we've got a "reliable" (but inaccurate) source stating that King has served 30 years, should we discuss this in prose? Also, should we maybe mention that the list is blokes only, with at least two women having just missed the cut? Schwede66 04:34, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks like someone in the source was using a very crude calculation from their start date to their end date without considering time they spent outside of the parliament. Similar pages do not mention the status of women in the list, but I have no issue with your suggestion (I even think it is a positive) Playlet (talk) 14:05, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The parliamentary records themselves have King on their list with 30.19 years as a member (see here) so I've re-added her to the list. Kiwichris (talk) 23:13, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I've stuck those dates given for King into a spreadsheet and that comes to 11,021 days in total, which is indeed 30.19 years. Assuming those dates are correct, King's been there for over 30 years. No idea where my initial comment above comes from. Schwede66 01:03, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
