Electric grid
[edit]Isn't electric power grid of any continent just a single gigantic machine? 2A02:168:F609:0:7855:CA84:B8D8:C659 (talk) 19:12, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
- And they are often cited in various articles about them as being the largest machines in the world. It is mentioned in several articles in the wake of the 2021-02 power outage in the US state of Texas (which is what brought me here). 2600:1700:5D50:F920:4697:22DC:1746:E036 (talk) 01:59, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

The inclusion of "concepts under development"
[edit]All of the vehicles listed actually exist...except one: under the heading "Space vehicles: launch vehicles is "Long March 9", which is described in the article on it as "...a Chinese super-heavy carrier rocket concept that is currently under development" (emphases added). The design brief/specifications for "Long March 9" are described as having changed multiple times over the past few years, and it only exists in mock-up form. I would argue that if "concepts...currently under development" are allowed to be included, the list will rapidly devolve into a collection of speculative projects and vaporware, such as hypothetical "largest O'Neill cylinders" and "largest Dyson spheres". Unless someone can make a persuasive argument for why a "concept" should be included on a list where every other entry actually exists, I will remove it in a week or two. “Machines” vs “Structures”?
[edit]Came across this interesting comment in the Maeslantkering article:
It is one of the largest moving structures on Earth, rivalling the Green Bank Telescope in the United States and the Bagger 288 excavator in Germany.
Curious that only one of those machines is listed here (the Bagger288).
I made a similar comment in that talk page; would be curious if anyone else thought it might be worth adding “largest moving human-made structure” to this page, or possibly creating a separate page -- although then we could argue about where to divide “structure” from “machine”! :-) Tkil (talk) 06:49, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
PTSN
[edit]Could the public telephone network, considered as a whole thing, be regarded as a single machine? Sure, it has parts, but all those parts interact with one another real time. They are physically connected. 203.13.3.93 (talk) 23:32, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
