Title

[edit]

Why the convoluted name? Why not just call it the "List of lagomorphs"? Abyssal (talk) 15:16, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Missing species

[edit]

This list does not list the all 27 currently recognized species for Sylvilagus and the all 34 currently recognized species for Ochotona; see Cottontail rabbit#Species, respectively Pika#Species. --NGC 54 (talkcontribs) 14:04, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@NGC 54: As stated at those two lists, yes, they don't match- this list follows the guidelines of WP:MAMMAL that we start with the species listed in Mammal Species of the World 3rd ed. (2005), and then add/remove species where both the IUCN and ASM agree. The articles you mention do not do this; for example Cottontail rabbit has the Bogota tapeti, Sylvilagus apollinaris, but that's not in MSW or recognized by the IUCN, just ASM, while Pika has the Flat-headed pika, O. flatcalvariam, but that's also not in MSW or recognized by the IUCN, just ASM So, it's not that this list is missing species, it's that those articles have species that they shouldn't. --PresN 15:05, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
