Ó Ruaidh ?
[edit]Byrne, Irish Kings, pp. 278–279, does not list any Ó Ruaidh or Uí Ruaidh kings of Munster. After Ólchobar mac Flainn, Byrne lists further Eóganacht (note, that page name is wrong) kings until Mathgamain mac Cennétig, brother of Brian Bóruma. Any experts care to comment ? Given the choice, I thing I prefer to rely on Byrne. Article tagged accordingly. Angus McLellan 23:10, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
Apologies for moving too fast in removing this, should have made the connection to Brian son of Murchad. But was really Brian ever reconnised as a "King of Munster". The AI only mention him by patronym (no title given) - Tadg MacCarthy seemed to have had the upper hand during his one year "reign". The source referenced says :"But on Diarmaid's death in 1118, Muirchertach's protegé Brian mac Murchadh O'Brien, assumed the kingship and Diarmaid's sons took refuge with the Mac Carthys in Cork. By now Tadhg was in effective control of south Munster, and when Brian O'Brien attempted to re-assert Dál Cais authority over the region in mid-1118, he was met at Glanmire by the men of Desmond and defeated in battle, Brian himself fell by the hand of Turlough mac Diarmaid O'Brian" - it is not clear (to me at least) that the kingship he assumed was that of Munster (I'd rather say Dal gCais/Thomond). - Add, Jefferies seem to be depending on Mac Carthaigh's Book which reads "[Brian] took the kingship of Sliocht Eóghain Mhóir ..." - if Sliocht Eóghain Mhóir means Munster I stand corrected. Finn Rindahl (talk) 13:26, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
