The following is a list of jazz albums, in which the initial release of the album... LP records or compact discs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.245.60.54 (talk • contribs) 20:14, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
What are the criteria for inclusion in this list? I'm tempted to nominate this for deletion, but at the very least it needs to cite reliable sources. Both Koop (band) and The Pillows made "important, notable, historically significant Jazz albums": according to whom? -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:23, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- Revisiting this: For starters, if we are to keep this article, it should be moved to "List of important jazz albums" or something similar; "list of jazz albums" suggests an indiscriminate list that we don't need (or have the time and resources) to maintain. Second, any item in this list needs an accompanying citation supporting the item's significance (e.g. a Crown or Core Collection designation in The Penguin Guide to Jazz, or perhaps an AMG pick in Allmusic, though I think the latter is overly generous with its accolades). Third, no red links: any album that is sufficiently significant for inclusion in this list deserves its own article, which should be created before we link to it from this list. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 15:25, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
What about pre-bop jazz?
[edit]I notice that there are virtually no recordings listed from before the 1940's. Certainly threre was an abundance of essential jazz made from before then. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjjanmb (talk • contribs) 03:43, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- But virtually no albums, because LPs hadn't been invented yet. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 04:42, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Why all the Ella albums?
[edit]Why the ton of Ella Fitzgerald albums? Surely she is not as important as Luis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus combined and then some? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stjarnblom (talk • contribs) 20:21, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- Because someone who's an Ella fan put them there where no Armstrong, Davis and Mingus fans have decided to add stuff, I imagine. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 22:08, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
