I am aware that the tag advertising is a bit harsh, but the newly added "table of islands" has a lot of characteristics of advertising. For example the island of "Kaohera", that is uninhabited but has as capital "Kaohera Beach". Or the island "Madoogali" that has just 51 inhabitants and has "Madoogali resort" as capital and "Haruge beach" and "Mariyadehe beach" as "Other Cities". Beaches are clearly not cities and in most cases also not even permanent human settlements. A major clean up is needed because it feels like a covert tourist advertisement. Advertising - Respond

[edit]

1. The Maldives are undergoing a political demography administrative change. Tourism ministry has established a new "council" for resorts. They have realised that many resorts have internet connection and resort islands of more than 100 staff need to appoint a representative for this council. Creating this council will hopefully end the many strikes during the past year and bring more comfort to the employees union. This is why the plan is now to add the resort islands to the 2014 census.

2. In order to identify between uninhabited islands, there is a field "other" where uninhabited islands which has no use are listed, and, if an island is used as a picnic island, or has some different amenties/activities such as Maldives Military training base or Agricultural farms, fisheries, airports, than it is listed within the list.

3. There are no links to the websites of the islands, so this is deffinitely not an advertisement. there even are no pictures of the resorts or information on the prices etcetrra....

Sorry, but we will leave it like this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HonorTheIsland (talkcontribs) 22:13, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I have cut out all beaches, resorts, clubs, picnic island and a few other tourist destinations. Wikipedia is not a tourist guide. The Banner talk 12:28, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:List of islands of the Maldives/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

A full list of all the islands of the Maldives is now provided here. There are roughly 200 inhabited islands. all the remaining islands are uninhabited islands used for economic purposes such as tourist resorts, industrial islands and agriculture. The atoll and provincial capitals are also indicated. Additionally a list of the disappeared islands are shown, which is quite vital reference information for people looking into the effect of global warming and other vlimatic changes on low lying countries such as the Maldives. It will be very useful if those listings mention about which type of economic activity is carried out in that particular uninhabited island in relevant cases.
