What should be included in this list
[edit]I started to add "towns" and "villages" to this list (and there are a lot of them in Florida that are entirely on islands, I found more than a dozen just in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties), but stopped because of the name of the list. I thought about renaming it to "List of island municipalities in Florida", but wasn't sure the list is even worth saving. I see that the only other list of island cities/municipalities in WP is "List of island cities and municipalities in the Philippines". The only WP article that links to this list is "List of islands in Florida". I also see that the category system handles Florida municipalities inconsistently, i.e., "List of municipalities in Florida" is placed in the categories "Cities in Florida", "Towns in Florida", and "Villages in Florida" (the category "Municipalities in Florida" is a parent category with no articles in it), with some municipalities placed in more than one of those categories. So, if you think this list is worth saving, and should included all municipalities, then I will rename the list and work on adding all those towns and villages. - Donald Albury 12:41, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- I personally believe that the list is worth keeping as an encyclopedic topic. I'll note I can see that others might consider it deletion-worthy, but I believe there is something here that can be built on. As for criteria - "incorporated municipalities" would be the scope I'd consider best. Limiting it to "City Of _____" is somewhat arbitrary (a lot of times the difference between "City", "Town", and "Village" is solely in the mind of whoever drafted the charter), while incorporation is an objective benchmark. - The Bushranger One ping only 22:02, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- While I question the usefulness of the list, I would not have tried to delete it (I learned that lesson a long time ago). It is more a question of how much effort I am willing to put into supporting it, considering all the other things I could work on. I am uncomfortable with how much "city", "town" and "village" are used to distinguish municipalities in Florida in WP articles. I see a problem, for example, with linking Lake Buena Vista, Florida, with a population of 27, to City in the infobox, while Wellington, Florida, with a population of 65,200, is linked to Village. If we are to add "towns" and "villages" to the list, then it should be renamed to "List of island municipalities in Florida." - Donald Albury 01:30, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
