wikify

[edit]

this page needs to be wikified, the links are badly placed, some directly link the name to its web site while others have a number beside it where the link is placed. kathzzzz-ganda! 06:09, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

updating

[edit]

Is a list by geography really the best way to go about this list? Most troupes are concentrated in a few states. I think it might be better if this list is re-done by type of troupe (ie, major professional, professional, collegiate, other, etc). Does anyone else have thoughts about this? Major Overhaul

[edit]

Just moved this list into a wikitable. It could use some more, and better, references for some of the troupes. I'll be going through some of those that are included, but are redlinked, and adding articles for them if they are notable. If they are not notable, I'll probably come back and delete them from the list.

Companies included in previous list, but now removed

I included redlinks that have enough information on the web to fill in the table. If I couldn't find enough info on their own webpages, I'd go see if they had any coverage in their local papers. If they didn't, they got cut off the list. Those that had to be cut off the list are below in a collapsible list, here, on the talk page.

With the international ones, I tried as hard as I could to glean enough info off their pages to put them on the list, but I am not really multi-lingual. So, those are included here as well. - SMSpivey (talk) 02:44, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Misplaced addition

[edit]

Just moving something misplaced and without enough info to include in list to here~ "Pag's Instant Theatre: International touring company in the tradition of Instant Theatre."

'Major Professional'

[edit]

What qualifies a troupe as being "Major Professional"? Several have not even got wikipedia pages of their own- I'm skeptical as to the notability and credibility of some. Brauden (talk) 08:50, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article describes "Major Professional" as follows: "Major Professional companies have branches in more than one city, have touring groups, and/or host large-scale improvisational comedy schools." This seems like a reasonable definition. A user named NewAccount4Me downgraded several companies on December 6, 2013 from "Major Professional" to "Professional", one of which I disagree with. The People's Improv Theater is a major training center in NYC, including touring groups for corporate work. I am returning it to "Major Professional" status, as it's a larger theater than either Philly Improv Theater (PHIT) or Magnet Theater, both of which are listed as "Major Professional". I am also tempted to upgrade The Annoyance Theatre since it has a large training program that has recently expanded successfully into a second city. I'm going to wait, for now, but if it continues to grow, it should be upgraded. Eightfingereddie (talk) 09:02, 06 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Redlinked troupes

[edit]

I've removed a vast amount of troupes that do not have articles about them. It's common practice in other articles that the troups/conventions/subjects have to have an article that shows notability before being included in a list here on Wikipedia. The reason behind this is that otherwise it runs the risk of being a promo or a directory for every improv group out there. Next up is for me to check to ensure that all of the links actually go to an entry for an improv group. Once or twice I've clicked on something, only for it to go to something that's obviously not about an improv group.Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:32, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
