[edit]

I noted that there are beautiful mountain ranges in Africa that, due to their volcanic mode of origin, are not some of the highest peaks in the world. Yet, in their own right, they do need recognition - as is the case for Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest "free standing" mountain in the world.

Many of the top 100 highest peaks in the world are essentially a progression of mountain ranges that were primarily formed as a result of tectonic plate movements / continental drift. Perhaps other mountains formed as a result of "other" geographical reasons deserve a mention - hence my initiative to start a small article on these "other" mountains - such as the mountains in the East African Rift Valley - generally the highest in Africa. Not much information on this list

[edit]

Compared with lists of mountains in North or South America, or the Alps, this list is rather skimpy on information and length. Perhaps that is because African mountains are not as tall as others in Asia or South America, but more information is needed. --DThomsen8 (talk) 16:21, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
