Merger/Deletion Request

There has been a similar page and template here Highest-grossing Tamil films which is semi-protected.So this page attracts vandalism of content and template from "fans" of their favourite actors to show their mass/uplift their "actors" status by changing the earnings of certain movies higher and other movies lower or even removing certain movies from this list.So i request a discussion for merger/deletion of this page in good faith

MeeGhaMan (talk) 19:00, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

The proper title is this page List of highest-grossing Tamil films, but agree that the two are duplicates, one needs to be deleted/merged and the remaining one protected. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 21:01, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

http://eeroju.in/vijay-kathi-tamil-movie-75days-box-office-collection-report-and-poster/ This link for kaththi BO collection for 75days was mentioned to be 202 crores which i found it to be baseless as i quote a Better citation from International_Business_Times http://www.ibtimes.co.in/box-office-rajinis-lingaa-enters-25th-day-vijays-kaththi-completes-75-days-619327 which states that Lingaa was the highest Grossing South indian film(including dubbed version) raking over 140 crores which almost correspond with our citation for Lingaa from Andhrabox office as 148.75 crores..At the same time it states Kaththi as highest grossing tamil film(original version) getting over 130 Crores(Current link from andhraboxoffice site mentions 124.5crores as of 17/dec/2014 for kaththi) at the end of 75 days(5/1/2015)..So i beleive the link from eeroju.in is absolutely baseless..But i don't add Kaththi to be 130 crores(as it is mentioned in the link it is over 130 crores which is arbitrary)..If Someone cannot find a better source for kaththi which is now believed to be over 130 crores atleast we can add the same reference from ibtimes.co.in.. Deletion of overseas box office section

According to the scope of this article it can only include a new section for films grossing in india and worldwide separately and not different region of the world.Adding further currently it is not citated properly. So i request the user IndianBoxoffice to provide a valid reason or citation from other wiki article to include the section in the scope of article! I delete the section until it is properly discussed in the talk page to retain it and can be reverted back later if necessary! MeeGhaMan (talk) 13:05, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Welcome back TRPOD,in list of highest-grossing Tamil films page you have removed all links pertaining to andhraboxoffice.com but currently this is the only reliable site providing BO reports for Tamil and Telugu movies and their reports are also quoted by International Business Times in their BO reports..My only question was what made you think it is unreliable.. Thank you MeeGhaMan (talk) 08:39, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi TRPOD,as u have mentioned in my talk page that random sites don't meet the threshold,i beg to differ from you in case for andhraboxoffice.com which is one of the "Random" site that has been citated by International Business Times on many ocassions for BO reports. So, i believe adding this site as citation won't affect the credibility of Wiki.Thank you! opening weekend

Opening weekend normally include Friday to Sunday(3 days),as most of the films releases on friday. Please mention the number of days in brackets if the movie has been released on other days ('n' days). This is to ensure comparability with other films. MeeGhaMan (talk) 06:06, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Every info available in this page is wrong. The guys who wrote this article dont know what box office means. The rank of each and every film apart from endhiran is entirely wrong.2nd place would go to I.3rd place would go to kaththi .then thuppakki, sivaji and so on. Thalapathymadhusankar is a rogue. he should not be allowed to edit wiki pages. he has vandalkised the page by replacing a valid entry 'dasavatharam' with his own choice. the movie he has entered made 125 according to the movie's boxoffice collection report. ban the rogue and do not allow any edits from that login. 203.117.48.68 (talk) 09:25, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Not done: According to producer of movie Kalaipuli S.Dhanu [1] the estimated gross is a little more than Rs.125 Crore which is way less compared to distributor EROS's claim of Rs.180 Crore.Since there is huge difference, after consensus with some senior editors it was approved to add the Producer's version to be true and binding. Please remove Mankatha from the list. The source given for it is Behindwoods, there they have told that it is said by Sun Pictures in Twitter. What the truth is, it was a tweeted by a fake account. Here they have compiled everything regarding this on that time itself. http://www.moviecrow.com/News/481/7-easy-steps-to-creating-box-office-numbers ..Check this, and it had(Sunpictures_)as account name before, (in the link) but its not there in real now.

Just wondering how the film made 130c, If then it must be atleast in Biggest opening day/week record which should exist til now.. The radanmeadia head (distributor of Mankatha) Radikasarathkumar has said the film earned 45 crores. ( https://twitter.com/realradikaa/status/126643649193840642 ) 45 crores totally not possible worldwide but she would have said about total Tamil Nadu collections. If only 45 crores in Tamil Nadu how it collected 85 crores from other territories?! Half and more than the total collection comes only from home place Tamil Nadu. something wrong in the source, I would request you to do the needful.

117.193.193.242 (talk) 15:21, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Done Since, the tweet that claimed mankatha's overall collection is not available in Official Twitter account of Sunpictures it is believed to be created by a parody account..So, it has all grounds to be removed from List of Highest grossing Tamil movies.Though Behindwoods considered to be reliable, but it need not be reliable always!

P.S: I have not considered Radhika's tweet for this decision as she is not a Worldwide Distributor for this film MeeGhaMan (talk) 17:42, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Please change Thuppakki 125 crore to 180crore Thuppakki collected 180c at the box office. here is the source from Eros - Eros international earnings file. http://www.erosintl.com/EROS/media/Images/Eros-International-Q3FY13-earnings-release.pdf?ext=.pdf (page no.4) and Times of India too stated this news on their website http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/tamil/movies/news/Vijays-Thuppakki-makes-180-crore/articleshow/18691254.cms Even the producer of the movie has said the movie has collected 187c. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CTpy2sjerM (0.58)

please do correct it, this misleads many.

117.193.223.14 (talk) 17:12, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Why? S Thanu estimated the worldwide collections to be 125 crore. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:23, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Not done: For any movie claim by a producer has more value than a distributor..In his interview to news media he has been quoted mentioning "125 crores" but in the Video he is mentioning 187 crores(Here he mentions some other source claims 187 crore,in the presence of Actor's Fans)..Usually producers wont reveal the exact gross(since it is a taxable income)..In this case he revealed it and it holds a value. If there is a clear statement by him mentioning 187 crores in Printed News media then it can be published.
