Talk:List of handheld game consoles/Archive 1
A major flaw in the article
[edit]The GameBoy Colour was not a part of the GameBoy, and was a seperate console, The GameBoy was a fourth gen console, and the gameboy colour was a fifth gen console — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:C2:C101:783:C8F7:D063:8C82:520C (talk) 21:15, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- 1) The GBC was just a GameBoy that supported color; it wasn't a notably more advanced console- it had the same processor, the same resolution, just a bit extra to allow for color information. 2) It's considered 5th gen because of when it came out... which the article says. --PresN 21:38, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Yes, but remember that the GameBoy Color also played it's own games, with better music capability, and the use of an AC adapter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:C2:C101:783:C8F7:D063:8C82:520C (talk) 23:24, 14 November 2015 (UTC) Also, most consoles that have "the same processor, the same resolution", are included as a section in the main console's page, unlike the GameBoy Color and the New Nintendo 3DS --'User:theexploringgamer — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:C2:C101:783:C8F7:D063:8C82:520C (talk) 23:28, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- 1) To sign a comment, just write "~~~~". 2) This list has nothing to do with whether or not a given console has its own wiki article. --PresN 02:34, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

Can we sort this chronologically?
[edit]I'd like to see this article sorted chronologically, sort of like the 'List of video game consoles' article.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.166.78.190 (talk) 15:14, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
- Go for it. Most of the list is, just that random entries have been added in the wrong spots. -- ferret (talk) 16:20, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Virtual Boy
[edit]According to Wikipedia's definition of handheld game consoles ("[...] video game console with a built-in screen, game controls and speakers.", the Virtual Boy is no handheld console because it has no built-in game controls.-- Maxeto0910 (talk) 16:28, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- I agree if the RZone and the Oculus Quest on this list, Virtual Boy should be two. Also it's "Portable" to an extent. Also the page refers to it as a “32-bit tabletop portable video game console.” Doremon764 (talk) 05:12, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Game and watch
[edit]Nintendo made this 2nd generation handheld called game and watch( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_%26_Watch ),So is it fine if i add that console to this list? Simulator-master (talk) 06:00, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Fixing up page?
[edit]Should we get rid of Generation such as the List of home video game consoles did? Also should we add a section for Units sold, CPU, and "Bits"? Doremon764 (talk) 05:11, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

Kasey the Kinderbot
[edit]Earlier I removed Kasey the Kinderbot because I thought it did not play games. However I was mistaken.[1] I'm still unsure if it's a handheld, but if it is, it should be readded. --Mbrickn (talk) 23:47, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

Questionable Additions
[edit]NOTE: I'm not saying I wan't these deleted form the list, TBH I don't, but I wanna hear your thoughts
- Some of the pre-gameboy handhelds: they could have all the games built in with the cartriges selecting which ones to play, similar to the Magnavox Odyssey.
- Etch A Sketch Animator 2000: It isn't really a "game" system, but it fits the criteria, so who knows.
- TurboExpress, PC Engine LT: They are redesigns of existing consoles
- Game Wizard: Same reason as #1
- Cybiko: If we play by those rules, then stuff like the iPhone could be on here, since similarly, it's a multimedia device with games as one of the functions
- Kasey the Kinderbot: Kind of a stretch to call it a game console
- V Smile Pocket: Same reason as 3
- VideoNow XP: The main reason I made this list. While the games were a big selling point of this model, it is part of a series of primarily portable video players
- Kids Pad: Isn't it just a tablet with a focus on educational stuff?
- Arduboy & makerBUINO: They are just modified Arduino computers.
Also, shouldn't the Vectrex be here since it has a built in screen? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zicari101 (talk • contribs) 18:20, 5 June 2020 (UTC) Zicari101 (talk) 18:24, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
- I think that you bring up some fair points. I'd make the following notes about a few of these consoles.
- Portable Home Consoles - Probably the most deserving of the entries listed here. The Sega Nomad is almost always included in lists like this, and if that's included, it makes sense to include the less successful also rans so the reader isn't given a false impression that the device was a weird divergence instead of being part of a larger (Mostly unsuccessful) trend.
- Etch A Sketch Animator 2000 - Though it only saw the release 3 games, it's basically among the first touch oriented gaming devices. Even if gaming wasn't it's primary purpose, I'd argue it was its most competent function in practice. What's most telling about this is that there were three game cartridges developed, but only one cartridge to enhance its art capabilities, which says a lot about how Etch a Sketch saw the market for this thing.
- Consoles with cartridges that just select a built in game - Agreed that it's a bit of a cheap trick, but they were pretty big parts of the market at the time.
- Arduboy - It's absolutely a portable Arduino. If it were a one of DIY project I'd agree about removing it, but it was mass produced and saw a lot of licensed games developed specifically for its platform.
- MakerBUINO - It's a bit strange since the MakerBUINO is literally just the DIY kit version of the now Gamebuino classic console. Interestingly, the more current Gamebuino Meta is definitively not an Arduino clone, but that isn't currently listed.
- Vectrex - Not really a handheld game console since it needs wall power and the controller isn't rigidly attached to the console. Interestingly there is a prototype of a fully portable version floating around.
Hope this helps! --Mbrickn (talk) 06:35, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
