REM is listed as a grunge band.
That's patently false. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.129.0.4 (talk) 15:07, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- This is exactly what brough me to the talk section. REM does not belong 9n this list. 108.147.172.73 (talk) 05:04, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
U-men
[edit]The U-Men are included on the Deep Six (album), which makes them one of the first "grunge" bands. We need to accept that the music of the Seattle scene began in the mid-1980s and not 1991 (Nevermind/Dirt/Ten). Some would argue that "grunge" in its purest form was all over by 1991. Union Youth
[edit]Union Youth is also a grunge band. Albums: The Royal Gene (2002)/The Boring Years (2005)/ And Somebody Said that he should go (2006)

- All you need to do is WP:CITE expert WP:RELIABLE sources which other editors can WP:VERIFY. Note: the unreferenced text that currently appears on the German Wikipedia does not meet these criteria. William Harris • (talk) • 09:48, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
Battalion of Flies (was: Notability)
[edit]A query (or two):
- The page title is "List of grunge bands". As such, why must all entries be 'notable'? If that were the case, surely the page title would be "List of notable grunge bands"
- What constitutes notability in this instance? It would seem a rather subjective term, particularly to anyone who isn't familiar with a particular countries music scene. In this instance, I added Scottish band 'Battalion of Flies', who have been around since 2003 with an international following, and included references to music press reviews of early and recent releases, yet it was reverted with an 'NN' tag, which I can only assume means 'not noteable'?

The sources you provided don’t say specifically say that they’re a grunge band. If you find a reliable source that calls them a grunge band, then no reverts will happen. Ilovelife68 68 (talk) 17:58, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
Done (I think). The difficulty is that alternative, alt-rock and grunge tags tend to be used interchangeably and getting into the discussion of "what constitutes grunge" is a subject of the sort that causes wars. Add to that, few sources list the band category, merely the album genre. I could add a linke to 'spirit of metal' (https://www.spirit-of-metal.com/en/band/Battalion_Of_Flies) , but that's merely another onlince encylopedia, so not sure that would count for this purpose? Either way, I'd appreciate feedback rather than simple deletion, if that's possible. Stealthdj (talk) 12:32, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
And it's been removed *again* with no explanation, despite the links noting the genre of the band as "grunge". Any suggestions for a way forward? Stealthdj (talk) 12:00, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not just a directory for (insert anything here). In this case Grunge Bands, as such to be included in a list the subject of the entry should be considered notable. For wikipedia to consider something to be notable it should have a corresponding article. Therefore Write the article first. VVikingTalkEdits 13:13, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Then I have a couple of points in response. 1. Wikipedia notability guidelines directly contradict you: "Notability guidelines do not apply to content within articles or lists" 2. The 'WTAF' document relates to the red-link and not the inclusion itself. I'll happily remedy that by removing the link, pending creation of an article. 3. Even wishing to debate the above point, constant reversions with no comment are less than useful and little more than vandalism.

- Stealthdj, the policy you are citing (WP:N) continues, "(with the exception of lists that restrict inclusion to notable items or people)", which this one is. dannymusiceditor oops 16:18, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
