I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people: L's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Dateunavailable":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 08:16, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Bot! I've fixed those. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 05:01, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Liberace

[edit]

The problem with including him with a Gay classification is that it goes against the point the beginning of the article makes, that it doesn't include people RUMORED to be gay. To his dying day Liberace denied being anything but straight. Even if it's obvious to everyone he wasn't, going against what he claimed is basically saying he lied, but there's no support for that beyond OTHER people claiming otherwise. Having him included in this listing does, unfortunately, go against both Wiki policy and the guidelines set out in this article itself. Remember, Wikipedia doesn't go by Truth, but Verifiability, and even the reference given doesn't provide any sources for its information, basically making it the equivalent of hearsay. Leonardo da Vinci

[edit]

I see there's been some dispute about the inclusion of Leonardo on this list. I've readded him today, having added some referenced material on his relationships to the Leonardo da Vinci's personal life article. That's now five reliable sources (Abbott, Bramly, Clark, Friedman, and White), plus the rather more debatable Freud and the less explicit Vasari, describing Leonardo as preferring men. No, it's not a term Leonardo would have used, and no, without a time machine and the keys to his bedroom we can't be 100% sure, but I think these sources are good enough to justify his position here. Gonzonoir (talk) 17:17, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I endorse. Appears as solid as anything from that far back and especially in that kind of culture will be. This is, after all, not a BLP issue. — Becksguy (talk) 17:22, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why not use a special mark or even a special list for people strongly suspected to be homosexual, but not proven? These issues are likely to be true, but since they mostly rely on indirect evidence such as close relationships with pupils, such an inclusion may lead to debates and conflicts. --Dr. Bobbie Fox (talk) 10:10, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I take your point, but I'd oppose creating a separate list. I'd prefer that we copy into the list introduction this excellent section from the History of human sexuality article, which notes that determining sexuality for historic actors is always difficult and subjective. In fact, it's technically impossible to prove that anyone is gay - it's not like there's a blood test for it - so excluding historical people on that basis would be a little disingenuous. Rather than gut the list of anyone whose sexuality is conceivably in doubt - which would be, well, everyone - I'd say it's better to acknowledge the category's limitations. (The introductory paragraph already has a note to this effect, but I think we could beef it up). Gonzonoir (talk) 10:34, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: In order to be added to the list there needs to be a Wikipedia article about the person. --Jnorton7558 (talk) 15:32, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

John Lennon

[edit]

Yoko's made it pretty clear that John was bi.

time.com/4072894/yoko-ono-john-lennon-bisexual/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by CyndaquilFire35 (talkcontribs) 23:29, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That same article reports there were "Rumors of a sexual encounter between Lennon and the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein ... but Ono doesn’t believe it happened, or that there were any other relationships with men." Surely we aren't listing people as bisexual even if the people who knew them best doubt they ever had any same-sex relationships. Msnicki (talk) 02:03, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
