There may be a trouble in deciding what constitutes a "frivolous" or "joke" party (List of satirical parties, anyone?). Some this kind of groups constitute a single satirical joke; one Russian joke party (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten) proposed exporting heat from South East Asia to Siberia, for example, but apparently little else.
By the way; does anybody know if there is any truth in a tale that there was a British "joke party" who proposed digging a tunnel between Britain and the Falkland Islands? -Nilmerg 09:08, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- I wonder if the Marijuana Party of Canada would count. :P --Lucky13pjn 05:53, Nov 21, 2004 (UTC)
_________
The Peace and Freedom Party began as a serious party, but it has degenerated into a frivolous party. That's why I put it up there. This represents a particular problem - what happens when a serious political party turns into a frivolous party? This problem is why I have not restored it to the article.

Veritas
Do Veritas count? - by 71.118.48.248 (talk · contribs)
- Hmm... I don't think it was founded as a joke or even protest party - Skysmith 06:22, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Natural Law party
This is not a frivolous party, since they are actually serious about their aims. Similar reasoning would apply to the Marijuana Party of Canada, or indeed (sadly) Veritas. Just because you find them funny doesn't make them frivolous. --Spudtater 00:57, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
hey...
Should we include the Monarchy Party?--ghostbear616 03:00, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Do you have any references or information? The Rhinoceros Party should give you a good idea of what a frivolous party is, if you're unaware. WilyD 03:47, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

'The Keep Royalty White, Rat Catching, Safe Sewage Residents' Party' led by Sir Horace Balsam. Shouldn't that be 'The Keep Royalty, White Rat Catching, Safe Sewage Residents' Party' led by Sir Horace Balsam.
Do they want to keep royalty white, or catch only white rats? I though the pause was in the latter place. 131.251.0.11 10:31, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
minimum standard
I know it may sound strange to say so given the topic, but this page isn't for just anything. It ought to be an "actual" political party with some activity documented by external information. I'm not going to try to make a sharp dividing line. I don't think it needs to have enough to make a whole article (e.g. Mongolian BBQ party) but it needs to have something more than their own crappy website. --Abu-Fool Danyal ibn Amir al-Makhiri 01:32, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- I would suggest, attempted registration and attempted running for election in a constituency "bigger than a local council".Garrie 06:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- The page is small enough for a case-to-case basis to work, but that seems like an effective baseline. --Kizor 23:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
I am sure I remember not voting for these guys during an Australian federal election - which means some time since 1990...Garrie 06:13, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Caber Party, anyone?
One political party in the UK which I recall (from the mid-1980s) is the Caber Party - allegedly so called because of the widely held belief that all politicians are tossers. Does anyone else remember it? (I was once asked by one potential candidate to be his agent - an offer which I judiciously refused.) Hair Commodore 20:15, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Blancmange throwers
I remember Pamela Stephenson once stood for the Blancmange Throwers Party. The internet tells me that a Miss P H Stephenson stood in 1987 in Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead. There she is listed as 'independent'.[1] Ah, happier days. Stevebritgimp (talk) 20:28, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- The actual name was the I Want to Drop a Blancmange Down Terry Wogan's Y-Fronts Party apparently. I've added it in with a reference to The Scotsman. Skomorokh incite 20:34, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Refimprove tag
User:Closedmouth tagged this article with refimprove. But what exactly does he want cited? The notability of the entries are presumably each demonstrated at their individual articles. Their frivolity is usually self-evident; and in cases where it's not the appropriate place for claiming and documenting frivolity is once again at the underlying article, not here. I don't see what sort sources would be needed for this page. So I'm removing the tag. Please don't restore it without first making a case here that it's necesary. -- Zsero (talk) 06:26, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. (Thanks to the tagger for moving the table of contents, though.) We have in the past agreed, on some counts repeatedly, that serious and frivolous political parties are two very distinct groups, too much so to mistake one for the other, that the frivolity is self-evident to the point where it cannot be reasonably contested, and that the article will still function if unclear cases are kept out. The article is actively monitored to keep it clean. --Kizor 00:54, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- Mind you, I have previously been asked to provide a reputable medical reference for the fact that people's heads don't explode by themselves, but that doesn't mean that there was a point to that, either. --Kizor 00:55, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Fringe party redirects here
I think, however, that a "fringe party" or a "fringe candidate" is one that has no real hope of winning? Шизомби (talk) 22:17, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Pirate Party
Should Pirate Party be included? Tdyuvb (talk) 18:11, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- Probably not, it's not a "parody, joke, hoax," as funny as the name sounds. Шизомби (talk) 00:22, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
- Definitely not. The various Pirate Parties are out for real political change, whether or not that's a pipe dream. Thanks for asking. --Kizor 02:37, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Australian Sex Party
I'm fairly sure that they aren't a frivolous political party as they seriously campaign in elections. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.16.116.148 (talk) 19:54, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
German FDP
Now why would the FDP qualify as a frivolous party? Okay, they are in deep trouble right now, but the FDP has governed on the federal level for 46 years (since 1949), more than any other other party in Germany. The CDU/CSU comes next with a total of 42 years, the SPD has been a part of the federal gouverment for 26 years. The moniker "Fast Drei Prozent" ("almost 3 %") is certainly not used by the FDP itself but by their political opponents, there are similar mocking-nicknames for the other parties as well. On a sidenote, thereused to be a "naturgesetzpartei" (Natural law party) which clearly deserves being listed in this list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.206.110.173 (talk) 11:21, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Must the parties be official parties
The FU Party (Canada) is listed even though had never been registered with Elections Canada. Its entire existence consists of a few months of rambling, and limited to no political or financial support. Does it really qualify to be on this list, or even have a page on Wikipedia?
