List selection criteria
[edit]Here's how I envision this article working.
Include:
- Structure fires destroying large structures (e.g., factories, hospitals, large apartment blocks) or public infrastructure (e.g., trains, bridges, highways)
- Fires producing more than a couple of deaths, or a large number of injuries
- Fires attracting international attention (e.g., the BBC writes about it)
- Major fires that might have been preventable if government safety standards were strong and enforced
Exclude:
- Ordinary "everyday" fires (e.g., an accidental fire when you're cooking dinner, with no injuries or deaths and no other buildings destroyed)
- "Private" fires (e.g., a single home, and the only people harmed are the people who live there)
- Fires that are primarily car wrecks
I particularly hope that this page will become a home for fires that might have borderline notability.
If you have ideas about how to adjust these criteria, please feel free to share them here, or to Wikipedia:Be bold. My message here is not "a rule", and even if it were, Wikipedia:If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:39, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
