Scope of article

[edit]

Moved from User talk:Nthep
The article is about "women in the Formula One", not about "women who have competed in a Grand Prix of Formula One". Villota and Wolff are drivers of Formula One, though they do not compete in a Grand Prix. I have marked her statistics in blue to differ to them. --Jymeen (talk) 14:31, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Read the first line of the article "This is a list of female motor racing drivers who have taken part in the Formula One World Championship" - until they are at least entered into a race then they haven't taken part in the Champiponship. How about for a compromise that we add a 's paragraph explaining Wolff and de Villota's roles but leave them out of the table until such time as they are entered for a race? NtheP (talk) 14:34, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

They are in the Championship as test drivers, not only the titular drivers take part in the Formula One. The press considers them the first women in the Formula One since Amati. --Jymeen (talk) 14:50, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that they can appear in the table with the necessary differentiation, like other colour.--Jymeen (talk) 14:53, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at http://www.formula1.com/results/driver/ - the official list of drivers entered for the championship, do you see their names there? It's not what the press think, that counts but what can be verified and if the FIA aren't including them in the list of drivers then they are not entrants. In her interview when she got the job de Villota said "this can only help my future ambition to step up to Formula One racing" so she doesn't think of herself as an F1 driver yet. NtheP (talk) 15:05, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Neither of them have even driven the cars yet, and neither will see a race. They're lucky to get a footnote. Also, they are absolutely not "in the championship" as any kind of driver, nor are they entrants. Bretonbanquet (talk) 03:49, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is no consensus to keep adding a table, or adding their names to the list. They are not entered for the Championship and do not belong on this list as per the lead paragraph. There's at least one other female F1 test driver, Sarah Fisher, who similarly does not belong on this list. Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:05, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jymeen, the description of the page's scope is more important than the title. After all, what do you mean by "Formula One driver"? That isn't something you can expand upon in a simple title. To me it sounds as though you are happy to include anyone who has ever driven a Formula One car, and perhaps even only a simulator, as a Formula One driver. As Formula One is a racing series, to count yourself as a Formula One driver you really ought to have raced or been entered for a race. It is fine to include the additional information that other women have some experience of driving a Formula One car, but to include them in a list that is explicitly about those women who have entered a proper, competitive, World Championship event is bordering on a lie. No list of Formula One drivers that I can find includes mere test drivers in their ranks. Also, consider male test drivers. How many of them are referred to as "Formula One drivers" when the only thing they have ever done is test the cars? Why should it be different for women? Pyrope 13:46, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?

[edit]

I'm kinda wondering right now... Kinda following Ched's suggestion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject NASCAR, should this be merged with List of female Formula One drivers, List of female 24 Hours of Le Mans drivers, and List of female NASCAR drivers? I am somewhat interested in turning lists into featured lists, and by combining all of these, it could be a somewhat of a "collaboration" between WP:WikiProject NASCAR, WP:WikiProject Sports Car Racing, WP:WikiProject Formula One, and WP:WikiProject American Open Wheel Racing. I'm going to post this on the other talk pages to see what happens. Zappa (talk) 23:33, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I retract my request. ZappaOMati 22:22, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
