[edit]Hey hey. So, i've noticed that there a few earthquakes on this list that appear to be here for the sake of being here, like all of the earthquakes in the significant section below other than those of magnitude 6.0+. While these earthquakes were felt, they aren't that significant as they occur Australia wide so often, including those felt. I was thinking of listing (in the list section) all known earthquakes of magnitude 6.0+, plus smaller events noted for attributed deaths, injuries, significant damage, being the first earthquake felt in each state and territory, being the beginning, largest and final event in a swarm, being the largest recorded since European settlement within each a state and territory (even if, such as the case of Victoria, their is more than one earthquake declared as the largest, having the same magnitude), quakes associated with fault rupturing, quakes noted as the deepest recorded and finally earthquakes believed to have been associated with human activities such as mining, dam building and/or tracking. I have done a lot of research to find such quakes, and there are quite a few, but I am not sure on how to reference, so bare with me. I would also like to place earthquakes that have originated in the Banda Sea region but have been felt in and/or caused damage/injury across the top end in the 'other significant earthquakes section' as they have not originated within Australia territory. The quakes that have occurred in the Southern ocean that have not been felt on the mainland, which are noted in the list at present, do not qualify for either section. This excludes the 2001 7.1 and 2004 8.1 earthquakes as they were felt in Albany (WA) and southern Tasmania respectively.
My references come from Geoscience Australia, Seismology Research centre and Australian seismologists such as David Love and Kevin McCue who have gathered information from old newspaper scans. This later method has proved very useful and can be found on the AEES website. Plus here is the direct link to David Love et al. paper on some damaging Australian earthquakes and associated costs: http://www.aees.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/08-Daniell.pdf
I am getting ready to update the main list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dion1995 (talk • contribs) 09:27, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

[edit]A 3.2 (Richter Scale) earthquake with epicentre in the Adelaide Hills was felt at approximately half past 11 at night. Unfortunately this is using the old editor and I don't know all the codes for it. Would someone more skilled be able to put the appropriate information in? Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.215.191.35 (talk) 14:54, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
The cited source of the 2010 Earthquake should be changed to a more reliable one, ie from Geoscience Australia. http://www.ga.gov.au/earthquakes/getQuakeDetails.do?quakeId=2861614 60.242.72.168 (talk) 16:20, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit]The current details on the page were from initial reports from Geoscience Australia. The finalised results are now available. Magnitude 3.4, epicentre near Blackwood. This should be corrected. 60.242.72.168 (talk) 16:20, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit]i moved some less significant quakes down the list as I didn't think they qualified as "significant", apparently i was meant to mention it here first, so apologies for that. yes, i agree that the criteria is confusing, but i think that for a quake to qualify as significant it would need to be either of a high magnitude by australian standards, and/or have caused significant and/or widespread damage, and/or caused casualtiesTrex21 (talk) 05:05, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
