RPS Rajah Soliman
[edit]Acquisition
[edit]The former USS Bowers have two articles in Navsource, one as DE-637, the other as APD-40. The Navsource article for APD-40 indicates that the ship was acquired by the Philippine government on 31 October 1960 through loan, and was sold outright on 21 April 1961, while the Navsource article for DE-637 only states that it was transferred to the Philippine government on 21 April 1961. Both sources never indicated when the ship was actually commissioned to the Philippine Navy.
Sinking, Decommissioning, Fate
[edit]There were conflicting reports on when the ship sank. Both sources from Navsource indicate the sinking date as June 1962, although another website (blog) pointed out a news article from Navy Times and actually posted in Navsource that the ship sank in June 1964 as typhoon Winnie (Dading in Philippine AOR) struck Manila and Bataan on 29 June 1964, the same date that the D-66 sank. Although both Navsource articles confirmed that the D-66 was struck from the Philippine Navy's list and raised on December 1964, and its hulk sold to Mitsubishi in 1966. -- phichanad 14:05, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
