Context
[edit]Hi, some information needs to be given to provide some context and explain what Grandes de España means. IRWolfie- (talk) 11:07, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Can't verify sources
[edit]We need a link for each entry going to a specific page, not a link to the main page forcing the reader to somehow search through a Spanish language page. Dougweller (talk) 05:53, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with you that it would be very nice to have a link for each entry going to a specific page on the website at www.diputaciondelagrandeza.es. However, I have not found a way to do that. When I do a search for a title on that website, it takes me to a search summary page for that title name, but it does not allow me to save that particular search summary page as a weblink, unfortunately. So it appears that it is not currently possible to have a link for each entry going to a specific page on that website. As an alternative to going to that website's main entry page, there is a direct link to the title search page at www.diputaciondelagrandeza.es/guiadetitulo . On the line marked "Título", the reader should enter only the Spanish version of the title name (such as "Sevilla", not "Seville"), and novice users should not enter other info like "Duque", since that could potentially lead to no result being found at all. This system is not ideal, but it seems to be the only method at the moment, as far as I can tell. Please let me know if anyone finds a better solution. Blairall (talk) 17:28, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- This is a pain. So for every new entry we'll have to do a search. I'm surprised this is the only source. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 15:19, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Duke of Abrantes
[edit]I'm posting a message here that was originally posted by a user on my talk page, and I include my reply {Blairall (talk) 20:40, 14 April 2014 (UTC)} : "Every entry here needs a reliable source because this article is covered by our WP:BLP policy. Anyone can remove any entry at any time if they aren't sourced. If you have a source, and it seems as though you do, would you please add it? If I get around to it in the next couple of days I may remove all the red-linked entries. I'm removing Duke of Abrantes now as there's no evidence the title still exists." Dougweller (talk) 05:46, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your comments, which I appreciate. In your post above, you mentioned that you were removing the Duke of Abrantes title. However, when I do a title search for Abrantes at http://www.diputaciondelagrandeza.es/guiadetitulo , it clearly shows that the title still exists and the current holder of that title is José Manuel de Zuleta y Alejandro. This is supported by the genealogical listings for him at http://www.geneall.net/H/per_page.php?id=140631 and at http://www.genealogiafamiliar.net/getperson.php?personID=I625791&tree=BVCZ . Also, a Google search of his name shows references to him as the current Duke of Abrantes in Spanish-language media. This is also supported by the "Duke of Abrantes" page on Spanish Wikipedia. Please note that the Duke of Abrantes page on English Wikipedia has been vandalized many times, as you can see from its "view history" page, and the current title holder name there is a vandalized name. Thus, the Duke of Abrantes page on Spanish Wikipedia is the better one to consult. Please let me know whether this info is sufficient evidence for you that the title of Duke of Abrantes still exists, and if so, perhaps you could add it back to the list. Thanks for your help! Removing grandeeships from the list
[edit]Before removing any grandeeships that are listed, please consider checking the title's status by doing a quick title search (using only the Spanish name of the title) at www.diputaciondelagrandeza.es (please see the instructions in "Can't verify sources" post above). Also, if a title holder died recently, the new title holder is only officially recognized on that Spanish website at a later date when all the formal title-succession paperwork has been approved and filed (the process is explained at Spanish_nobility#Succession, and the official page in Spanish is here). So some current grandeeships may be listed as being vacant for a while, but the new title holder will be officially recognized sometime soon and shown on that website. As a result, it might be better to leave such grandeeships on the Wikipedia list, instead of removing them completely (a note could be put in to update the page later). -- Blairall (talk) 20:57, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- There are many red-linked entries on this Wikipedia list, but most of those red-linked entries appear to be legitimate current grandees, according to the website at www.diputaciondelagrandeza.es. They might only be red-linked because they do not have a current page on English Wikipedia (but they might have pages on Spanish Wikipedia or others). So please check on Spanish Wikipedia if you want more info. Thanks for your understanding. -- Blairall (talk) 20:57, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- Red-linked entries should be retained. As stated in WP:REDDEAL: "In general, a red link should be allowed to remain in an article if it links to a term that could plausibly sustain an article, but for which there is no existing candidate article, or article section, under any name. [...] An existing red link can indicate one or more of the following things: A new article is needed. When a Wikipedian writes an article, it is common practice to link key topics pertinent to an understanding of the subject, even if those topics don't have an article on Wikipedia yet. Do not remove these red links. [...]" -- Blairall (talk) 23:30, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
Wellington missing for a reason?
[edit]Wellington (Duke_of_Ciudad_Rodrigo) missing for a reasonGarlicplanting (talk) 13:05, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Semi-related: I changed his titulature to include "Duke of Wellington"; having him listed simply as "Charles Wellesley, 10th Duke of Ciudad Rodrigo" without including the Dukedom of Wellington seems to rob the entry of critical information that a casual browser of the article, without the benefit of a knowledge of the British Peerage/Napoleonic Wars, might find useful.
