County Road 4050 merger

[edit]

County Road 4050 (Volusia County, Florida) fails WP:GNG as there is not "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". Passing through a historic district does not, by itself, make the road historic unless the street is mentioned in the NRHP documentation. Any other argument is related to the bridge, which is a separate topic which can covered independently of the remainder of the road. Notability can't be inherited, and per WP:ROADOUTCOMES, past precedent is to merge these into a list if individual notability has not be established for the road itself.

The PROD in 2010 was contested with "the road is borderline at best for notability, but the article might be able to be converted to one about the bridge. Gimme two weeks and I'll see what I can do; if not, AfD is cool." When I discovered this a month ago and nothing had been done, I merged it in good faith. This list article has the key details of the original article merged into it. The list can adequately cover the details of this roadway without a separate article. • Withdrawn Oppose The historic significance of the road is well established. The historic districts were added after the initial PROD, which appears to have satisfied the original nominator. The road has not changed since the original PROD, so there is no reason to promote a merger again. Gamweb (talk) 10:01, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Historic districts are irrelevant. Is every road that runs through those districts now inherently notable? --Rschen7754 19:57, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • If the historic districts were such a significant factor, we'd offer to redirect the road to the district. Where is the "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" that establishes that this road is considered historic? Tangential mentions (being the mailing address of a contributing property) does not prove notability to the road. Imzadi 1979  23:08, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • If you want a "historic road", I'll point to M-1 (Woodward Avenue). It has three separate National Register of Historic Places districts or MPSs named after it: Lower Woodward Avenue Historic District, Midtown Woodward Historic District, Religious Structures of Woodward Avenue Thematic Resource. The roadway was platted in 1805 after the Detroit fire along a former Indian trail, the Saginaw Trail. In addition, it has been the subject of its own news coverage during Detroit's tricentennial and its own bicentennial in various major newspapers. There are also whole books about the road, Woodward Avenue: Cruising the Legendary Strip (ISBN 978-1-032494-91-4 Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: checksum) and Cruisin' the Original Woodward Avenue (ISBN 0-7385-4045-5), with others that devote coverage to in the context of historic roads in the state, like A Drive Down Memory Lane: The Named State and Federal Highways of Michigan (ISBN 1-886167-24-9). Start providing some of that sort of content, and you can call CR 4050 "historic". Imzadi 1979  02:28, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak support - as it stands, the article is, alas, not notable enough to stand alone, it seems. That said, I still believe an article on the bridge might well be noteworthy - alas, I don't have the time to work on it. If a bridge article is written, though, the road could be included in it and the redirect re-redirected there Redirectception!. - The Bushranger One ping only 23:41, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Just because the road passes through historic districts does not make it notable. Dough4872 02:30, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - I agree completley with Bushranger's call for an article on the Veterans Memorial Bridge (Daytona Beach). And even though passing through historic districts alone wouldn't make it notable enough for a stand-alone article, I'd still like to see those historic districts get links to CR 4050 whether it's merged or not. ----DanTD (talk) 14:50, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Something to note is that the article was already merged a month ago. The only thing that changed was that the redirect was reverted, restoring a full article, but the merged content was left in the list. Since County Road 4050 (Volusia County, Florida) previously redirected to an anchor in the list, and that redirect would be simply restored, it's a triviality to add any necessary links to other articles.
