Serious editing needed
[edit]this list has suffered from vandalism and needs serious editing. People keep changing on and on what the top 5 largest countries are. One edit China is on top of Canada, the other Canada is on top, then the US is on top; so people, seriously!! Stop arguing which country is larger, wikipedia is not the place for that. I don't edit it because I don't really know the real facts, but somone who knows should edit it and get this fixed up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Malejotm (talk • contribs) 21:24, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- Let me be precise...
Canada is 2nd largest by TOTAL area, 4th largest by LAND area.
China is 3rd/4th(disputed) largest by TOTAL area, 2nd largest by LAND area.
US is 3rd/4th(disputed) largest by TOTAL area, 3rd largest by LAND area.
Please tell me you understand this? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.172.115.215 (talk) 05:14, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Antarctica
[edit]This list doesn't take into account claimed Antarctic territories. Is there a reason for this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.186.147.109 (talk) 15:48, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
LAND area VS. TOTAL area
[edit]I don't understand why most people don't get this straight. I mean it is NOT THAT HARD! Before putting Canada at second place again, please be aware that Canada is 2nd by TOTAL area and undisputably 4TH by LAND area! Before making stupid edits, UNDERSTAND this difference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.172.115.215 (talk) 05:11, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Missing Countries
[edit]There are many missing countries from the list - e.g. United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Hungary, plus many others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.137.181.246 (talk) 18:46, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Is this entry still a work in progress? Please, someone continue to add to it, or maybe I'll have to get to it? --Mistakefinder (talk) 23:21, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
China has grown larger
[edit](and yes, that title is a humorous reference)
- January 12, 2011, Tajikistan agrees to give land to China, Washington Post
- 13 January 2011, Tajikistan cedes land to China, BBC News Asia-Pacific
Tajikistan has ceded ~1000 square km to China following the signing of a border deal. -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs email 02:20, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Reformating underway in a related article -- may have impact here
[edit]The List of countries and outlying territories by total area is in the midst of a reformatting. The related discussion is at Talk:List of countries and outlying territories by total area#Table Areas and item Notes. This article is closely related to that one, and both should probably have the same format. Editors of this article may wish to join the discussion there. - This article should be renamed to something like "List of 60 largest countries...". Current name suggests this would have all of them, not just top 60. And also the header of the table section is wrong. It reads "Countries by land area", but it has fro example Greenland, which is not country. 85.217.39.33 (talk) 18:02, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Sudan
[edit]List of countries by percentage of water area has the land area of whole Sudan before independence of South Sudan as 2,376,000 km². But, this list has Sudan with 1,885,000 km² and South Sudan with 620,000 km², which totals 2,505,000 km², the total area in List of countries by percentage of water area. So, that is not probably right. 85.217.39.33 (talk) 18:14, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
List of countries by percentage of water area has former Sudan's water percentage as 5.18, so the sum should only be about 2,375,000 km². Evenly splitted it would be 1,787,000 and 588,000 km², but that is probably original research. 85.217.40.33 (talk) 06:32, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
