Cumberland and Allegheny
[edit]Added etymology for these two. Cumberland named for the English county not the Duke (unlike most Cumberlands in the US). Like most PA counties named for English ones, the county seat is named for the English county's town, in this case, Carlisle, England. Allegheny County was named for the river, which in turn in a Lenape word of uncertain origin and meaning (some say "fine river" and the like, others of a legendary ancient tribe). It would be nice if the chart's info cited sources, like the List of counties in Massachusetts page does. Pfly (talk) 03:54, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Etymology or Namesake
[edit]Should we perhaps change the column heading "Etymology" (origin of a WORD) with "Namesake" (thing named after)? 140.180.19.251 (talk) 06:26, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Centre County etymology?
[edit]The stated etymology for Centre County seems dubious compared to the simple explanation that it's in the center of the state, and contradicts what the page for the county says. Can anyone give a source one way or the other? Ethanbb (talk) 00:46, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
Sullivan County
[edit]Sullivan County was named after Charles Sullivan who was key in getting it split out from Lycoming county. The table above says it was named after John Sullivan which is incorrect 24.245.119.114 (talk) 10:56, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
